Ancient Gardens Guesthouse & Botanical Gardens

Picturesque location. Fascinating garden…ancient cacti etc. Host very friendly. Accommodation pleasant.

There is not a guest pool as advertised. The pool is located at the owner’s property, right outside their house….therefore no privacy. Our 10 year old twins were really looking forward to jumping in the pool, as were we. Due to the location of the pool, we did not feel comfortable going for a swim. Another concern, although the palms, cycad and cacti gardens and personalised tour were very interesting, I was concerned about my kids racing around the garden paths and getting a palm spike injury. I’ve had an older child in hospital, having to have a GA to extract a palm spike which entered between her toes, the tiny tip breaking off, resulting in a systemic infection. Closed in shoes should be worn and care taken brushing up against the plants at this location, in my opinion.

Truely a one-of-a-kind experience! From the moment we arrived, Peter, the host, was incredibly welcoming and warm. He has spent over three decades transforming what was once an empty space into a breathtaking garden full of rare and endangered cycads. His knowledge and passion for plants are inspiring, and he was kind enough to give us a personal tour, sharing fascinating details along the way. We were even gifted some unique plants, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The gardens themselves are absolutely stunning—beautifully designed and unlike anything we’ve ever seen. It’s a true labor of love, and Peter’s dedication shines through in every detail. If you’re looking for a peaceful and unique getaway surrounded by nature, I can’t recommend this place enough. We had an unforgettable time and can’t wait to visit again!

Peaceful surroundings and wonderful hosts - will book for a longer stay next time. Beds were super comfortable with beautiful bed linen and views of the incredible gardens from every window (including the spacious bathrooms). Peter kindly showed us around the property and explained how the gardens evolved then later took us on a frog search by torchlight to top off our stay.

The host Peter was excellent - had an enthusiasm about the plants and property that made the stay interesting for.our kids - solitude was great with a peaceful relaxed feel - kids wanted to go back again

This is a separate house. I enjoyed the freedom and privacy. It's a bit far away from downtown, but has nice views. The garden is definitely something that I enjoyed exceptionally. Host is warm and kind. We got a guided tour for the beautiful garden, too.

Some windows don't have curtain, although there is no privacy concern. Doors lack maintainence.

Absolutely fantastic, Peter is a great host and has such knowledge. We will definitely stay again.
