Blue Swallow Motel

If you want to experience the real Route 66, this is the place to go. The owners have kept the motel true to form, not a remodeled “historic” facade that is super modern, like in Albuquerque. This place is the real deal. The owners were extremely friendly and super accommodating. I highly recommend this motel.

Our family of four greatly enjoyed our night in the family suite of the Blue Swallow Motel as we were driving part of Route 66 in December. The suite was exceptionally clean and cozy on a cold night. The motel owners are very friendly and we enjoyed hearing about the history of the motel and the furnishings when we checked in. This motel is a lovely time capsule that will transport you right back to Route 66's heyday. The motel has some amenities that we didn't use but others might appreciate - guest (communal) refrigerator and clothes washer & dryer. They provide hot coffee in the office but we highly recommend getting pastries at the amazing donut shop that's just a block or two away. Make sure to walk around a few blocks in the evening to appreciate Tucumcari's beautiful neon signs in the dark (the crown jewel being the Blue Swallow's sign). Thanks again for a great stay!

A fun and friendly spot, liked the outdoor sitting area and the communal feel. The decor is nostalgic and cheerful, chenille bedspreads and colorful bathroom fixtures. And they make the best cup of coffee on Rte 66! Thanks for sharing your secret.

I took a daytrip with family from Amarillo, Texas to Tucumcari, NM and stayed at this lovely hotel. It was like stepping back in the past to the 1940's. The rooms are beautifully restored. The facilities are immaculate and comfortable. We loved the neon lights and the 1940's music flowing thru courtyard. Everywhere we looked on the property there was something special to see. The owners are very friendly and you can tell they love their hotel. It was a very special treat for us.

Best stop ever. The rooms are delightful, clean, comfortable and contains period decor. The owners are welcoming and sincerely enjoy having guests. This is a gem on Route 66. Any trip on Route 66 would not be complete without a stay here. We will be back asap.

A stunning establishment perfect in every way. It's Instagram worthy but it's also friendly, quirky and though the decor is unchanged from the 30s-50s, the beds are some of the comfiest I've ever slept on. The candlewick bedspread took me back to my youth and is so much better than today's comforters. The set up lent itself to interacting with other guests. Restaurants are in walking distance and this is one of the few walkable towns we've been to on Route 66.

What a great place! From the neon signs, to the original furnishings, to the amazing warm welcome, this was a perfect pitstop. We loved our stay here. It was spotlessly clean and wonderfully true to its history. The free coffee and Yorkshire tea were a lovely surprise. The pride in this place is understandable, it’s amazing. Tucumcari itself isnt that exciting, but the Blue Swallow is a great reason to stop here. Love the fact that the owners appear to really value their customers and don’t just live off the reputation. Perfect!

As part of our route 66 trip we were looking forward to stopping here as felt a bit of a must. What was really good was that there is no resting on their laurels. From letting us check in early, to showing us a round and providing a friendly welcome, a super clean room, great coffee we were made to feel at home. Although no breakfast when we had a coffee in the morning the owner gave us cereal bars to keep us going.

We look forward to seeing Rob & Dawn each year during our Route 66 travels to Arizona. This year, we had one of Rob's favorite rooms and I can see why it is one of his favorites. While this motel is in town and not right on the interstate, it's right on Route 66 and well worth getting away from the interstate. The rooms are authentic Route 66 and it takes you back to a slower time where people would sit outside and talk to one another (yes, tables and chairs are set up for this!). The rooms are small as they were during this time, but very well appointed and comfortable. We've stayed here many times during our travels and have already made reservations for our next trip. While some may wonder since this is not a brand name motel; I assure you (as I recommended to another traveler at a rest stop) this place is great. There is excellent foods right up the road at Del's or Kix on 66. So step back to an earlier time, when travel was more relaxed and talking to owners and others was the way of traveling life. It's a time you won't forget and will want to do again. The gift shop is also great for BSM or Route 66 items.

Have passed this place for years and always said we’d stay here next time. Next time finally came, and we loved it the owners were great and a pleasure to visit with. The room was great and a/c was cold. We sat outside in the chairs and visited with other guests till late evening. Do yourself a favor and stay soon.
