Cheerful Hoi An Hostel

My son and I, loved our stay at Cheerful with Hien. It was a highlight of out Vietnam adventure. Freshly made breakfast by Hien each morning. The entire hostel was spotlessly clean. Hien was a wonderful host, kind, thoughtful, but not over the top or intrusive. I will never forget the free food tour that she took everyone staying in the hostel on. She organised all the bikes then led the tour on her scooter to these awesome little street side vendors to sit and chat and taste their speciality before moving onto the next delicacy. It was just a great experience with a person, generous with her knowledge and time. Also I need to visit the Hoi an hospital for a small illness, Hien provided all the knowledge I needed to make it work efficiently and effectively. The location was a short walk to the Hoi An centre. The host Hien is unbelievably kind, generous, and helpful. She goes out of her way to make each and every guest feel at home. From tailors to restaurants to boat tours to cooking classes to airport shuttles she can recommend and/or book anything. She even leads her own food tour free of charge-just the cost of your own food! Her generosity also helps create a really social environment between guests. I cannot recommend this place enough-seriously, stay here!!

Hostel owner Hien was just so welcoming and helpful. She arranged all our excusions and at a very good price. Location is relatively quiet but not to far from the centre of nightlife. Breakfast was excellent. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Alles war richtig super! Hien ist eine tolle Gastgeberin, bei der man sich sofort wohlfühlt! Wir konnten Fahrräder ausleihen, sie hat uns mit den Aktivitäten geholfen und uns die Weiterreise nach Ninh Binh gebucht. Das Frühstück war auch top! Absolute Empfehlung für Hoi An!

I stayed here with 2 friends and this was all of our first times in Vietnam (and my first time travelling by self-planning), coming through from HCMC we were planning to head to Quy Nhon via night train, but it was just as the flooding and landslides were getting really bad in South Central Vietnam. When I told our host Hien about our plan she immediately gave us a call, helping us come up with an alternative plan to make sure we were safe and get around safely by flight instead of train. Because of her generosity we didn’t really have to worry at all with such an abrupt need to change our plans, even with our inexperience. From the price of accommodation you obviously aren’t getting 5-star hotel facilities, but everything is very clean and all the basic facilities are there: laundry, blankets, clean bathroom in each dorm, fans and aircon, breakfast. But the real reason you stay here is the warm and friendly environment Hien creates for all the guests, and other reviews can attest to this as well. I was surprised when she told us she’d been operating the hostel since 2017, I feel it’s easy to become jaded working in hospitality for so long, but Hien’s enthusiasm and genuine care for guests are so clear. She gave us suggestions on what to do in Hoi An, helped us book tours, gave us restaurant suggestions, and took us to the best cơm gà (chicken rice) dinner the night before we left. If you come to Hoi An definitely consider staying at Cheerful Hoi An. ps: DONT message Hien after 6pm (end of work time and start of family time) because she WILL respond.

Not enough guests. The weather needs to get better so more people can stay here.
