Cheerful Hoi An Hostel

Very nice place! Hien is the best host, very welcoming and helps with everything, from giving tips about places to visit and ordering rides. Very good breakfast every morning also!

Beautiful location, great facilities and the most wonderful host.

Das Hostel lag sehr schön genau zwischen Innenstadt und Strand und war dadurch etwas ruhiger. Das Zimmer was riesig und hatte sogar einen Balkon, es war auch sehr sauber und gemütlich. Das Beste an dem Hostel ist aber Hien! Sie hat mir meinen Aufenthalt so schön gemacht. Sie hat für mich Touren organisiert und uns auf eine tolle Streetfoodtour und zu einem vietnamesischen Frühstück mitgenommen. Außerdem gab es im Hostel Fahrräder, die man umsonst benutzen konnte. Es war wirklich toll und ich würde jederzeit wieder kommen! Danke für alles, Hien!

I stayed here for 2 nights and Hien completely looked after me from start to finish. She organised my transport from Da Nang, booked my sleeper bus, arranged tours, and even took us on a local food tour. From the beginning, she was upfront that this isn’t a party hostel but promised she would take care of me—and she truly did. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had the best experience. If you want somewhere welcoming, honest, and cared for like family, this is the place to stay!!!

I stayed at cheerfull hoi an hostel for one week and it has been one of my favorite hostels I have ever stayed in. Hien is an amazing host and the best hostel mom ever! she gave me great recommendations for activities, restaurants, tailors, and she took us on a local food tour that was amazing! Hien took such good care of me while i was here, not only did she have great recommendations but many activities she actually booked for us, and she made sure we got the best price on things. The free breakfast was the best hostel breakfast i have ever had, and always included fresh fruit. The hostel is located in a peaceful area of hoi an with great local restaurants close by and an easy 15 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride from the main shopping streets. It was slow in Hoi An because of the rain and there weren’t many people at the hostel but the people who were here were all so friendly and generally just great vibes! Its definitely not a party hostel but it was super easy to join in a bar crawl at another hostel if you want to have a few nights out but still have somewhere peaceful to return to. The hostel is also very clean and comfortable, and the laundry service was great! If you want the authentic experience of Hoi An, you could not stay anywhere better than cheerful hostel, it is truly a gem!

Very nice hostel, the room was big, the owner was accomodating about the fact I am gluten free and tried to find alternative Vietnamese breakfasts for me to try. There's free bikes to borrow. There is a very chill and friendly atmosphere in the hostel and other guests were great at sharing advice.

I had a wierd experience with the owner. She inappropriatedly touched my stomach and butt. This was not sexual in nature, but I believe to let me know to lose weight in those areas- she never actually explained why. I found it inappropriate and unacceptable. The first time it happened, I reconcoiled, but assumed it was an accident; the second time, I burst into tears (my reaction was a bit OTT as I was extremely jetlagged). She apologized and told me to be strong. However, There is no world in which body shaming your guest is appropriate, and I don't want other women to have this experience. It left a very bad taste in my mouth. I understand it's a cultural thing in Vietnam- this has happened to me twice more while travelling- but I'm a paying guest and I'm not paying to be insulted. My body is none of your business, and I do not consent to be touched on my butt or stomach by a hostel owner for any reason. Also double check trip prices with her before you depart. She told me to bring one amount with me for a tour and it ended up being a lot more than that. I believe it was an honest mistake, but the tour guide was surprised when I had the wrong money and I was surprised the tour was almost double the amount I expected to pay. The tour was fantastic and worth it, but it involved the owner having to call me on while on the tour to explain I needed to pay more money. I know other guests around me did not have this experience and really loved the owner, and she really seemed like she was trying to make sure everyone had the best experience they could in Hoi An.

Hien is again the perfect host - she went out of her way to help us out with bookings (buses etc), and staying with her is a delight. We can’t wait to come back!

Hien was just the best. Always there to offer help around trips (in Hoi An or other places such as Danang), sort or organise transport, make a special occasion extra special with cakes and flowers or words of wisdom. We felt right at home staying at her hostel and were sad to leave. We don't think we'll find somewhere as lovely, again. The rooms were large and the breakfast was varied with pancakes or eggs and mixed fruit everyday. You could borrow bikes whenever you wanted. The street food tour Hien arranged and led was also a highlight, too!

The AC in our room was a bit hit and miss, and Hien leaves the hostel around 7pm so it may seem a bit dark and unsociable to some. But, there is a space outside to play cards or inside the dorm rooms to socialise.

Hien is the best host I've ever had. Passionate and caring about the guests.
