Greenhead Hostel

Location was good

TV remote batteries corroded. Only one key for all doors. Bed frame was beginning to fall apart at the bowling rods at corner.

The hostel was in a great location for Hadrians Path and the linked hotel (across the road) served lovely food and was a nice place to grab a drink.

Good value and the food in the restaurant was very good

Should've stayed in the pub not the hostel

Location was great for Hadrian’s Wall walk, it’s the only place to stay for miles so would have expected a better facility. We were fully aware this is hostel but would not stay again

Main issue was cleanliness, followed by poor food for the money charged

Dinner over the road in the hotel was very nice and the waitresses were lovely

It feels like the place has run out of money or something. The unworking bedside lamp was plugged into an extension with exposed wires which had a PAT sticker >5 years out of date. The window cannot be either opened or closed, leaving a gap (2°c overnight). The shower in the bathroom is just about fixed to the wall which makes the direction of water flow uncertain which combined with the broken hose isn't helpful. The toilet refill is so loud that we woke everytime it was used. The games room is all payable and needs deposits and while I can understand why the tone is just all wrong. Milk is available for tea in the hotel across the road - put a sticker on milk in the fridge to say "please use" or something! It's a hostel yes, rather than a hotel but that's not an excuse for how shabby it is, especially for the price being charged.

Amazing location for hiking. Good set up with the hostel connecting to the bar. The surroundings were beautiful and lovely . The graveyard was amazing. Lots of birds and quaint.

In the hostel there was a group of men and by way of amount of them and volume you were able to hear them early in the morning. Food was good but alot smaller portion options.
