Don Som Riverside Guesthouse

Perfect place for a quiet retreat. Really friendly staff and owners, great food, plenty of opportunities to do things around the island (walk, cooking class, boat trip) or just relax, read, and unwind in a hammock. If you are looking for a place to relax during your travels, this is the perfect place to stay for at least several days if not a week or more. The sunrises are absolutely beautiful. Tanoi and Sander were wonderful hosts and always available if you needed anything. They also checked in to see how I was doing throughout the day, and we had good conversations about Laos history and other topics. The first night I was there was Tanoi's birthday, and all guests were invited to the dinner celebration. Room and bed were comfy. There was hot water in one of the shared bathrooms if needed.

Nothing really to not like. If you want the party island vibe, rather than a relaxing atmosphere, go to Don Det instead.

Can't get enough of that place, looking at the life on the Mekong or discovering the farm life on the islands, the sunrises from your bedroom window, the big choice of very good food, and all the waterfalls or other 4000 islands activities cery close by. Take a boat and go to the morning market in Khinak, it's great. And of course the owners personality and super friendly staff. I love everything there.

Impossible to describe the beauty of this island with Don Som guesthouse as the perfect place for relaxing, swinging in one of the hammocks, reading a book on one of the terraces, swimming in the Mekong, cycling around the island, enjoying great food, taking a cooking class, having interesting talks with the very nice hosts Sander and Tanoi, doing yoga, or just sit and be mesmerized by the incredible beauty of the Mekong river. We stayed 4 nights in the double room with private terrace and private bathroom. What a joy to open the door of the bungalow in the morning and see the sun come up on the river. Our bungalow was spacious, cosy, comfortable and very clean with nice fresh smelling bedsheets. We recommend to rent bycicles at Don Khon and take them by boat to Don Som as long as it is not possible to rent bycicles at the guesthouse. Our stay at Don Som guesthouse is a highlight in our 8 months of travelling. Highly recommended! 💗

Really nice garden and directly at the mekong. They have an dog, goats and chicken. You get a welcome trink. Laundry service is available. Staff is really nice (a part speaks english)

There was no tuktuk when arriving at the port. I had to walk 1 km with heavy luggage by hot temperature and a description how to walk. A pick up service would be nice. Unfortunately they dont rent bikes anymore (got too often broken). There s a motorbike for rent.

If you are searching for a lonely place on an Island, this is the right one. The bungalows are in good condition and the bed is comfy. You will have a fen in the room (no AC). The owners are very friendly and the food is very good. Try the Lao Breakfast 03: The fried morning glory with sticky rice was one of the best I ever had. I really highly recommend to stay here if you don't want to go the touristy places like Don Det.
