"A wonderful, wild, back to basics stay."

9.0

The location is superb. It’s deep in the jungle but still relatively accessible (via gravel roads and a 30 min uphill hike). There’s a wonderful upstairs seating area to view the rainforest and garden and the individual cabinas with an open side to the jungle are really good. We slept so deeply and soundly while there, and were woken with the loudest dawn chorus of birds and howler monkeys of our whole trip. Amazing choice for solitude and wilderness. We were a bit nervous taking our just turned 6 year old but she walked all the hikes, incl up to and down from the hostel. Of her own accord, she declared how much she loved being surrounded by so much nature and loved the adventure of being in the jungle without electricity and internet!

We loved it all but would just mention that the wifi didn’t work for the entirety of our stay. This was no problem for us (and we enjoyed it all the more) but for people reliant on it for information about onward connections, it was a little tricky. Also worth mentioning are the venomous snakes frequently seen on some trails, so people should know this in advance and be prepared to look out for them.

"One for the books!"

10.0

One for the books! Not only was Ron(host) very welcoming, he created a safe space for travelers and nature lovers that excepted any expectations I had. Many memories where made during my 6 night stay. And the trails that he created were a bonus! Oh and you will definitely spot so much wild life during your stay! Thank you Bolita Rainforest Hostel!

Amazing place to unwind and reset. Hiking trails on the property were a big plus. FYI nudity was minimal during our 5 nights but I’m sure that varies with the crowd. Sunrise on the second story deck with a fresh coffee is a must. (Get there at first light and listen to the rainforest awaken)

Wi-Fi on property is a nice convenience but it detracts from people connecting with each other as it enables people to stare into their screens instead of interacting with on another.

we absolutely loved this place, but when deciding you should keep in mind that's it's rustic, more so than what the pictures suggest. it's hot, humid, we found a scorpion in our bed, but the wildlife surrounding the place is amazing. the kitchen is also excellent, and you'll probably have some of the best sleep of your trip (it's not as hot at night).

given that they shared so much info about the transportation opportunities to and from, I'd appreciate more clarity on that it's not possible to arrive the same day if you get the last ferry from Golfito to Jimenez

amazing place in the middle of the rainforest! unique experience with stunning sunrises in the morning! definitely worth a visit during your time in Costa Rica. We saw so many animals just by chilling in the hostel. friendly staff, great included hiking trails (especially the waterfalls and the hike through the river) and an breathtaking atmosphere - all around a one of a kind hostel

"Beautiful hostel embraced by nature"

8.0

The property was located in a beautiful place with many great hiking trails. The other people staying at the hostel were very nice and the volunteers were also great at doing their job and making the stay as comfortable as possible. We saw toucans and aras flying around which was a big highlight of our whole trip

We were freaked out a little about this clothes optional policy after receiving the first communication from the hostel but once we were there it was clear that no one was observing that there. It was quite uncomfortable hearing the co-owner Ron scolding the volunteers on a couple of occasions some being on whether the rooms were ready or not (which they were) and pointing out that the guests would now see the rooms without the sheets (it’s a hostel where guests have to put the sheets on themselves so it felt like a very weird attitude)

"Must do when in Costa Rica!"

10.0

Hostel right in the middle of the jungle. Kitchen is well equipped. Room is just awesome. Volunteers were super friendly. Hike to the hostel is no joke, specially with all the food and stuff you need. However, you can leave a lot of stuff in their office at the beginning of the trail.
