Cabañas el Bosque

This is a very special place. Open your door and you are greeted by a beautiful forest planted over time by the owners. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was delicious.

Beds could have been a little more comfy, otherwise it was perfect.

We liked the location and its situation amongst the trees. The hotel has a central main building surrounded by half a dozen satellite bungalows/houses. The family who run the hotel are absolutely adorable and the breakfasts were wonderful.

Although the owners are adorable there is progress to be made concerning certain aspects; the sheet on the bed was too small, the hot water supply was temperamental, the service for the evening meal meant that my wife and I ate one after the other and drinks were served when we had finished, the windows needed cleaning, lack of furniture in the bungalows. Basically the management lacked a bit of hospitality professionalism which is a real shame because the place and the owners are wonderful.

Cabanas is situated in a particularly nice part of Costa Rica, close enough to the Monumento Nacional, a few water falls, the Turrialba and Irazu volcanoes and the town of Turrialba itself. The area is secluded and relatively quiet. The owners and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our cabin had good wi-fi.

We were disappointed that, given the location, the Cabanas didn't have views overlooking the fantastic valley below (as do most other properties and private homes in the area. When asked, the owners told us they were going for a secluded "cabin in the woods" experience. Our cabin as a little too rudimentary for our taste. We mentioned the sagging double bed mattress and the owner said she would look into improving on that.
