Loved the atmosphere the guests from all over, the entire staff Deepa, Shiv, Ashu, ganga?? forgot the names.Shalini too Breakfast, khichdi was like home.. Vision of Vrinda Dar towards conservation was inspiring.. ..

That I had to climb stairs multiple times for my 5 days stay during the Kumbh rush after long walks around the city. It was inevitable though.

"Convenient location, helpful owner but perhaps some improvements needed"

7.0

The location was great and it’s a very walkable area. The owner helped me out with a medical issue which was really kind.

The breakfast was confusing, different options which were sometimes generous/varied and then sometimes limited. The staff were a little inattentive- we booked an early morning boat at 6am through the residency and they never showed up. We were given no explanation for this.

"Lacking in most areas"

3.0

The communal spaces are really nice. The location is good, but not way to get to with suitcases.

The bathroom stank of sewers… the maid brought incense as soon as we came in. No bin liners. No toilet paper. No bath mat. No hair dryer. The bathroom wasn’t very clean. The hot water was practically non-existent. The mattress needs replacing… very uncomfortable. There was a single sheet spread over a bare mattress, so you are basically sharing your bed with the last person who stayed. The price is exorbitant compared to other places in India. We paid over 5000 rupees per night, and given all the faults, that is really unacceptable. We have stayed in hotels all over India and paid half the price and the hotels have all been much much better. What you have here is a glorified backpackers hostel charging quality hotel prices. To top it all, we got very sick in Varanasi… unsurprising given that you can see open sewers pouring into the ghats just below the hotel. On the upside, the massage lady was very good, although she was 40 minutes late, meaning we were late for our arranged boat trip that the hotel organised. When we did get to the river, there was no boat, then when one did come it had no fuel, so we had to wait for anther. This all meant that we missed the puja, which is why we booked a boat in the first place. I liked sitting in the communal area, but that was little recompense for everything that was not good, and the ridiculous price. If you are going to tell people that they must pay a membership for charity (which is one-off here Adina why I thought I would book this hotel), then you need to provide information, photographs etc about the work that you are doing, so that we can see how our tourism is helping the local community… otherwise it’s just a hollow exercise.
