Banyuwangi Homestay

we only took the room for a couple of hours to rest after hiking Ijen. the owner was super nice and received us at 12am so we could leave our luggage and even assisted prior to our arrival to rent a scooter as we did the hike without tour. the place is simply but super clean and the bed very comfortable. it’s a authentic homestay which is nice. the owner also offers tours. we didn’t take one as we like to go on our own pace and are at a budget, but I’m sure they are great. In total - I was really surprised as we had stayed in homestays and hotels that are way more expensive, but didn’t offer this comfiness and cleanness. highly recommended!

everything was perfect.

Fendy is a really great guy, he picked us up from the train station and helped us plan the activities during our stay. We went to Ijen, snorkling, swimming with (small) sharks and on a safari tour! Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time otherwise we also would have visited the turtle beach. That was bad time management on our part. You’re staying in his own home and his family makes you feel very welcome. The first evening it was raining and while discussing our options for diner we ran into Fendy. He had to run an errand and could pickup some takeaway chicken satay on the way back for us. He really goes the extra mile to help you with anything, We would definitely stay here again!

Very nice basic Homestay. Fendi is a very nice sweet host with great knowledge of the wildlife. Even though breakfast is not on Booking.com, he still gives you one and it’s very generous and delicious!

The room was clean, comfortable and equipped with a ventilator. The bathroom was small, but clean and had a nice hot shower. You could also sit inside on a sofa or outside on some chairs with a table. In total the accommodation was clean, modern and comfortable. The breakfast, which was included was tasty and enough. Fendy and his wife are funny and kind. The special thing about this place is that Fendy can show you many interesting places in and around Banyuwangi. The main attractions are his tours to Ijen and the Turtle Beach. The Tour to Ijen was well organized and only cost 250k per person. The tour was so cheap because there were a total of 6 persons going to Ijen. You can also do the tour to Turtle Beach. It’s quite an adeventure, in which we drove with a Jeep through a national park to the conservation department. You sleep there for one night and you can witness the process of a turtle laying eggs and you can even release baby turtles into the sea. It was a fascinating experience! We payed 3.150.000 Rp. for the trip. Fendy taught us so many different things about biology and culture.

Sometimes the room could get a little bit stuffy.

Fendi was super helpful. Sorted out my ijen tour, took me to another hostel on his bike and helped me get the bus to bali even when i wasn't staying at his place. The place itself is nice and in a great location near the rice fields and chinese temple. A great place to meet people and good breakfast

The owner was very helpful with booking a tour to ijen for us. We had breakfast included every morning which was a surprise for the price. Great price and all you need for your stay

the tours organised by Fendi are very nice (obviously the one with the turtles is amazing!) he also helps you to get your ticket for the train and helps you for your next trip the terrasse of the homestay is nice and you are really with the local people

it could has been more clean, (for exemple the dustbin was not often changed), but the floor and the room are well cleaned It was not easy to find some restaurant in the neighbourhood (you have to walk 20-30min) and it’s not front of the beach as indicated on booking (beach is at least 30min walk)

The hosts were friendly, Fendi is a treasure trove of info about the area and obviously loves being in nature. Good breakfast

The couple has invested no time or resources in renovating their house after covid. Mold everywhere which gave us a headache. We got ill but the owners didn't offer help, 4 days without food except their breakfast, not even a bottle of water. Ran out of hot water, took 1 and a half days to replace the gas bottle. Unwashed blanket. Hole in the ceiling It's obvious that Fendy is busier with his tours than with his homestay.

Best value for money and homely place we have been too! Absolutely loved it! The host and his family where so friendly and really look after you.. If we hadn't have already booked stuff in Bali we would have stayed a lot longer. The breakfast was really nice and perfect after a night walking up Ijen. Host even took us out for dinner to a local restaurant where we had amazing food at super cheap cost. Could not recommend enough!

Like the other reviews say it can be hot in the rooms but the fan worked for us perfectly well! So no complaints here ❤️
