Great Homestay with lovely and helpful hosts who were very kind in assisting us with our onward plans and local activities. The chalets sit close to river, with great views of the backwater. It’s a few minutes walk into the village.

All was fantastic

We had a wonderful stay. The host Sunaina and her family are extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. Sunaina gave some great advise on what to do around the island and we thoroughly enjoyed the early morning canoe ride. The food was absolutely delicious, we had breakfast and dinner. It is in a quiet location where you can sit by the water and relax. Highly recommend.

What an absolute gem of a place. You have already seen the pics and read the reviews of how beautiful the riverside setting of the homestay is. So let me say a few words about the genuine hospitality of Sunaina, her brother-in-law Vinod and the rest of the family and friends who all work together to make a wonderful experience for the guests. You can absolutely feel that for them most important is to ensure that the guests get the best experience possible by visiting their place and Munroe overall. They helped arrange lunch, taxi, boat ride, toddy for us :) ... practically planned the whole trip for us. The property was super modern and clean...expect European standards. The home food that the family cooked was super tasty and sumptuous. They customised the spice level for us to suit our European palate and it indeed was a revelation to have amazing food in an amazing setting. Special shoutout to Vinod for his finger licking good Green Chromide fish dish (truly your signature dish!). Thanks again for everything and looking forward to coming back again.

Everything was perfect.

If I could give 11 points, I would. This is a gem in all of Kerala. Breakfast and dinner by the waterfront are not just scenic, but also delicious. The standard room on the first floor above the main residence is very spacious and clean. It has a nice view over the river from there. Sunaina is a fabulous host, full of knowledge, and she arranges boating and transfers. We wish we'd stayed longer.

We stayed in the wooden chalet and very much enjoyed our two night stay. Sunaina and her family looked after us with great care and made our stay very memorable. We had the perfect view of the river whilst eating wonderfully prepared home cooked meals. They organised a sunrise canoe trip, booking it and taking us there and picking us up. Also arranged our taxi on leaving. We highly recommend the Green Chromide homestay. The room was perfectly clean and good WiFi, in a stunning location.

Really cute cabin with all the comforts and in view of the river. A lovely pavilion on the water’s edge where meals are served and a good place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Family run, everyone was so welcoming, thoughtful, kind, and went out of their way to be helpful. Meals were delicious, plentiful, and of a good variety.

I liked absolutely everything!

We loved GreenChromide! Highly recommend to anyone travelling to Munroe Island or Kerala in general. Sunaina and her family were the loveliest hosts - very helpful and sweet. The meals they cooked for us were all delicious. Our room was great - lovely clean bathroom, great shower, AC and very very comfy beds. It’s a wonderful authentic homestay experience.

Fabulous stay at Green Chromide, named after Kerala’s official state fish, a palm-size thing that is plentiful in the rivers and canals here on Monroe Island and regular feature in the homestay’s delicious fish curry. Stayed in the pine chalet which is spacious, a large bed, and good a/c, (we needed a/c in November). The two chalets are in a private garden, with covered fairy-lit gazebos right on the banks of a wide, lazy river - a stunning location. But the real joy with this stay were the hosts, Suniana and family, who have a house across the lane and are the most helpful homestay owners imaginable. They’re keen to make the stay as comfortable as possible, flexible on breakfast hours, offering optional lunch and dinner meals (which TBH you’re likely to want since the evening set up under lights by the river is worth staying for). There are some other local food options available by tuk tuk, though all transport on the island is limited and winds down early evening - Munroe is altogether a slower pace than normal India, which is a good part of its charm! Suniana organised drop-offs and pick-ups in their car several times, booked a car for our requested day trip to Jatayu, another to do a personal sunrise canoe trip (worth doing), and tuk tuk to Munroe Island train station (10 mins away). As a keen amateur cook I wanted to see as much cookery as possible and they were really accommodating, allowing me into their kitchen 3 times to see dishes of my choosing being prepared and were helpful with recipe details too. Spent 4 nights here and really enjoyed it. Strongly recommend!

We like everything about Green Chromide homestay! The location was great, just in front of the backwaters. You can walk everywhere. The host was amazing, so helpful to reach the homestay by train or bus, depends on your own situation. Food very local, fresh and very tasty! The cabin is super new, comfortable and exceptionally clean. If you have a chance, please don’t miss this place!
