Light house beach home

The location was great and the laid-back atmosphere. Their area by the water was a really nice looking one that just made you wanting to come back again. The beach close by is good for swimming and also you can borrow/rent snorkeling equipment from the hotel.

This is a simple family run accommodation in a superb location on a small local beach. The owners are helpful and caring. Our room was small but the new air con was really good and it cooled down quickly. The bed was comfy and there was a kettle ( bring your own tea and coffee ) The relaxed atmosphere is catching you can lay in a hammock over the sea as you sip home made juices. The food was home made and beautifully prepared, we had all our meals there. There is another bar next door. I just didn’t want to leave.

A picturesque beach with the lighthouse next door. The family-run hotel was clean and comfortable. You can get juice at the restaurant next door or get a cocktail with music on the roof of the hotel next door. The beach is safe for swimming which is not always the case in Sri Lanka. I highly recommend this hotel for its price and amazing location. Great AC, fan, comfortable bed, clean, nice decor.

Fantastic value for money - what's described by Lighthouse Beach Home as the "budget room" could be "deluxe" elsewhere. Rooms are well maintained and nicely equipped, even if small - still comfortable, and you can shower while looking at the lighthouse through the bathroom window. The family running the place is very friendly and speak good English. Next to the guesthouse they have a nice, quirky restaurant on the waterfront. You can park a tuk tuk or a bike in the garden - sun beds then get moved to the rooftop terrace, which has views to the ocean and the bay.

The house was located in a beautiful location with an almost private beach and a beside a wonderful juice bar / restaurant run by the owners. Food, drinks and service were 10/10. Highly recommended staying here and it’s a short drive / Tuk Tuk to other touristy locations.

If you're looking for a place to truly unwind, this family-run gem at the foot of Donbra Lighthouse is just perfect! Nestled in a scenic bay with crystal-clear blue water, it’s the kind of place where you instantly switch to "vacation mode"—even with WiFi available, I only checked my work emails once (a personal achievement!). The on-site restaurant and juice bar serve fresh, homemade food (and it can be local type spicy if you enjoy chillies), with breakfasts that set the bar high for the rest of the day. Whether you are lounging by the water or exploring the area, coming back to a delicious meal is always a treat. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Need a taxi, tuk-tuk, or an adventure planned? They’ve got it covered—including surfing in nearby bays! My 9-year-old son absolutely loved the place and would have gladly moved in permanently—until he realized there were elephants to see elsewhere, which, after much negotiation, eventually won him over :-) If you are after a peaceful retreat with stunning views, great food, no noise and hustle and bustle of nearby places and a host who makes everything easy, this is the spot. Highly recommended! Also, while this is technically a business and an exchange of money for hospitality (unlike 'real' volunteering tourism), it never felt that way. The hosts genuinely care about their guests, making you feel more like an old friend than a customer. Bonus perk: the owner’s brother is also a fantastic photographer, and lucky for us, that talent is included in the homestay package! P.S. My 9-year-old was particularly inspired by the owner’s brother, who runs the juice bar and restaurant. He was amazed that this fully grown adult has perfected the art of life—lounging in a hammock, swinging above the water, and somehow still being “at work.

Amazing location with the ocean just outside the bedroom window.

The rooms are very small, but for a couple of nights it was fine.

Best plance in Sri Lanka - great hosts, delicious breakfast, just by the lighthouse with good access to the beach and center of Matara. Great place for trips to Tangale and Galle. Highly recomended! Book your stay if it's available!
