Song Mao Homestay

The view is stunning, the sheets were clean, it’s right next to the bus stop. That’s about it.

It is a big, old hotel, looks totally abandoned. The owner (or receptionist) turned up after the neighbors had called him to tell him we were there. He looked surprised when he saw us. Zero English is spoken, no communication with the property via Booking. It was clear that just a few rooms have been refurbished to sell them for way too much. The bathroom would need cleaning. Honestly, just pick a guesthouse from google maps instead, they are plenty in the neighborhood, just not on booking.

When we arrived there, there is no one. So we called hotel contact number and ask which room etc …. via phone. Then there is no bath towel. That’s why when we take shower, not ok. Then there is no hot water in my friend’s room. Even Temperature is 16•C,no hot water. That’s why one of my friend can not take a shower.

There is one old person who is kind. Otherwise, the other two, the old lady and the old man, are impolite. The room is conveniently located near the majority of popular tourist attractions.

The owner's behavior is extremely rude, and they are also unwilling to listen. They did not understand the English. Because the partition between two rooms is made of wood, the noise from the side room is audible.

Very easily accesible accomodation in Shizuo village, right next to the bus station Dinghu Tea Industry (頂湖茶業), perfect for visiting Mist trail, Tea tril and other hikes and beautiful places in the area. There was a hair dryer, kettle, local tea, pair of shoes for showering and small towels in the room ready and also some hygiene products in case you would not have them with you (toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush, shower gel and shampoo + soap). Possible to watch TV (if you know chinese, I could not find an option to add english subtitles anywhere unfortunately). There was a fan with three modes instead of A/C. The windows were protected against mosquitoes and bugs by a net. Convinience store was about 10 minutes walk away from the accomodation.

I was hoping for a nice view from the window so it is a shame that the net was fixed and I could not watch the view out of my room without it because it would be really good. Stuff didn't speak English at all unfortunately so that made it harder to connect with them and use the homestay to the fullest. I tried to communicate with them before my arrival (asking about difference in a price if 1 more person would join for example as I stayed alone in a room for two people) always in Chinese thanks to Deepl but they did not really communicate back which made me a little bit stressed before my arrival.
