Freedom Lodge, Kandy

Owner was lovely and very accommodating and breakfasts were good. Location was decent, set away from the bustle of the city but near enough to walk everywhere.

WiFi didn’t work, rooms were relatively basic and bathroom could do with a refurb.

Quiet guest house, nice big room with balcony. Close to town, but quiet. Sarath, the owner, is a gentleman.

Sarath and his wife own this amazing lodge. The lodge is very close to the bus/train station & you can walk from the lodge to the lake/Temple of Tooth/Dance show etc. Sarath welcomed us warmly and had 2 tickets for the local Kandyan dance show arranged for us and even called for reserved seats. He helped us with recommendations such as local restaurants & where to get the train tickets already printed. You’ll feel directly at home with the warmth of Sarath and his family. The breakfast was served on an amazing roof terrace. 100% recommend

Nice garden

Old bed and very basic furniture. No key for the house, need to ring every time

The lodge is in a good location, only a 10/15 minute walk to the city centre. The rooms and the bed are very spacious. Sarat, the owner, is a lovely man! Nothing is too much of an ask, he took very good care of us and especially of my parents who are a bit older. We had a great stay! They also have a lovely dog.

We had a great stay at Freedom: large and comfortable room with private balcony, uphill from the lake but not a mountain climb! Quiet and homey setting (including 2 lovely dogs) The breakfast was wonderful and generous. Several restaurants and bars up the hill, or more in the nearby downtown area. We enjoyed our conversations with Sarath. He has a very comfortable car (we went only to and from the railway station, but other excursions were also on offer) Definitely a great place for a home base in Kandy, thank you Sarath!

Travelles there in Aug. The owner of the Lodge is very nice and polite person (Mr. Sarath) He was honest and told everything about the necessary information around the city. The lodge is very close to the city center. 6 min walk to reach the Kandy Lake. In the street there is a lot of tuktuk, so if you want you can have one and skip the walk too. The room was nice, the bed and the pillow were comfortable :) This was my firs lodge experience, it wqs interesting. I was affraid that we will have insects, but not :) During breakfast you can see the monkeys on the roofs. 😃

Due to the humidity the bathroom looked a bit old and damaged, but was not a huge problem for us. This is a lodge, so not a full-closed building, it is not flawless clean and I was cold sometimes during the night, but it depends on the weather. They gave only sheets, not blankets.
