Chatted with a few new people living in the same place as us though we were very caught off guard that it was a shared apartment as the initial listing did not indicate.

Checking In - We found our luggage soaked in the rain upon leaving it for check in at the designated place, not locked and left in a public area. Note that the check in time is adhered to strictly. Mentioned that she was cleaning up but she could have helped us place our luggages in a safer area. Cleanliness - The place had a musty smell of women's hair oil odour due to the poor airing and my friend found a rotten black banana infested with flies in the cupboard. Amenities - Misleading information. There was no hot tub in the apartment. Washing machine usage is chargeable at 5000 won for few pieces of clothing. Experience - The owner comes by and checks in on your locked doors in the day when you are out. Also note that there was only 1 shared bathroom for 7 of us.

Location is perfectly balanced between the quietness of a residential neighbourhood but with the close proximity to Hongdae which is a busy tourist, student, youngster shopping district. I really liked how clean the owner kept the property and came to check and clean multiple times a day. My room size was perfect for my needs and I stayed for a month, so the availability of a kitchen, fridge, dining room was very useful so I didn't need to eat out for every meal. Location is also close to groceries, convenience stores, dining options, and if you don't feel like walking 15 minutes to Hongdae, hop on the bus almost right outside the house!

It was my first time booking a homestay so I didn't know what to expect. Each room is a different guest, so there can be noise up to 5am if some guests are not as mindful of the other guests in the house. One group of guests started cooking and banging pots and pans at 7am as if it was their own house, or taking a poop with the toilet door wide open....It's no fault of the homestay owner, just something to be aware of if you decide on this kind of accommodation arrangement that your experience can be affected by other guests. There is also no accessible entry, so if you have heavy luggage, be ready to lug it up the stairs. It was also peak summer when I went and the living room AC is generally turned off if no guests are using it, which makes the house quite hot and stuffy until you turn on the AC.

Clean sitting area, clean sheets, has some restaurants nearby

Unfortunately, it does not look like the pictures. Very hard to locate, not clearly marked, it is actually like a roommate apartment, our room door did not lock from the outside although we paid for a private room and anyone could have come and taken our stuff. The outside door was also problematic. There is a kitchen but you cannot cook there and there are other strange rules that i have never witnessed in a guesthouse hotel or hostel (time for how long you can shower, pictures of how you are allowed to pee -sitting only for guys...). I am glad we only booked 1 night and left 1st thing in the morning.

The host was a pleasure to interact with (Google translate) and was always on hand to help out. Sophie’s House is about 900m from the main station Hongik Uni. 1 min away is ‘Tous Les Jours’ cafe which is a great spot to pickup a ride using the Kakao app. Taxi is around 5000won or walk to get to HongikUniv. The rooms are super clean and well furnished. I stayed 2 nights. Downstairs you have easy access to a food mart and coffee place as well as a couple of local eating places. I will visit Korea again with Sophie’s high on my list of return stay.
