Casa Menezes - A Heritage Goan Homestay

Outstanding and very special stay in 400 years old casa! Room & service were excellent! Definitely, recommend it to everyone!

Casa Menezes is a beautiful property and David and Nicole who own it are delightful. Their staff are very friendly and the driver they organised for us, Prashan, was excellent and showed us the original Portuguese part, Fontainhas and Fort Aguada which had fine views over the Arabian Sea. We enjoyed traditional curry one night at the home stay and breakfast was always interesting and plentiful. There are walks from the property through the local village and to nearby Lake Batim which is home to many different birds.

I stayed 9 nights at Casa Menezes in December 2025 as a solo traveller. I flew straight from the UK and so I had lots of time to recover from the jetlag. I loved the homestay, a beautiful renovated old Indo Portuguese style house. The bedroom was very comfortable with colonial style furniture and all modern air con etc. I had the room with the veranda, which was very relaxing to sit and watch the sunset. The homestay is in a lovely countryside location. A 10minute walk is Lake Batim (go on the back roads for a quieter experience). I was thrilled to see so many varieties of birds, I had my own binoculars. Owners David and Nicole were very helpful in organising itineraries and were sociable and knowledgable about the history of Goa and their home. I ate meals with other guests at a large dining table, so I got to meet other travellers. The evening meals were authentic traditional Goan food at an extra cost and could be requested in the morning. The breakfast was very good, served 9.30am so this meant I could skip lunch. I used taxis to get to places and managed to see alot of North Goa beaches and Panjim. David also organised motorbike and moped bike tours which were really good fun and a unique way to see Old Goa. Overall, it was such a lovely place to relax and far preferable than staying in the big hotels.

This homestay must be in one of the nicest parts of Goa - and I've traveled a few. Not far from the coastline, close to the marvels of Old Goa, next to Panjim and in a strategic position to visit both, North and South Goa, alike. And yet, over the centuries Casa Menezes in Batim has preserved the charm of a tranquil hideaway. The hosts, David and Nicole, are among the most generous and welcoming I've met. Their idea of creating a place where you make memories, meet other travelers from all directions and become part of a family really came to life. Their traditional Goan meals were fabulous.

When a place is good, I usually think it’s because the people are friendly and helpful, and that is the most important thing after all. But in this case, it’s not only the owner and the staff who help—you can feel it in the place itself. A beautiful guesthouse full of history, in a serene location with gardens and trees. Everything is worth it. If you have the opportunity, take a couple of days off and stay at Casa Menezes—you’ll be happy you did!
