Tempel Cathedral Lodge in the Heart of Antwerp

Good location. Quite comfortable beds. Near plenty of restaurants.

The entrance area is not clean. There are a lot of narrow, twisting stairs to access the apartment, which makes it unsuitable for those carrying large suitcases or people with mobility issues. There are bare wires protruding from the wall next to the entrance door, which could be dangerous. Inside the apartment, the decor is tired and shabby. The kitchen is not well-equipped (the dishwasher is unusable). There is a defective electrical socket in the upper room. The bathroom is perhaps the worst feature - the washbasin is cracked in many places, and is therefore unhygeinic. The water runs out of the washbasin so slowly that scum and debris collects. There was no hot water in the washbasin. The shower also had very little hot water. It ran cold almost all the time. The lavatory was satisfactory. The whole place needs renovating. It could be a lovely place to stay but we cannot recommend it in its present condition. The lack of hot water was particularly annoying. At night there was a certain amount of external noise, but this could be expected in an area where there are lots of restaurants, etc. More annoying was the beat from loud music played within the building, often during the night or early morning. It was unfortunate that this property did not fulfil our expectations.

Location

The ultimate catfish. The photos promised us a cozy, cute space, but what we got was... well, let’s just say it looked like the tired, overworked cousin of the place in the pictures. False advertising at its finest. Where else can you book for nine people and discover the hidden treasure of only eight beds? the extra sheetless mattress and pillow we found stuffed under the bed really added to the charm. We tried to salvage the situation by asking for extra sheets. The cleaning lady graciously delivered, and by "fresh" I mean straight from some random guy’s bed. The sheets arrived drenched in the overpowering scent of a strange man’s really helped me feel connected to previous guests. My wishful thinking of a sterile smell of clean laundry was replaced by the lingering manly musk of someone I don't know. As if that wasn’t gross enough, sleeping on it left me itchy all night. The bathroom was more of the same. The overwhelming cloud of cologne was so intense, I was half-expecting a perfume commercial shoot to break out. I took the bold decision to avoid the bathroom altogether. The smell alone could make me gag. If you enjoy taking a shower without suffocating, maybe bring a gas mask—or just don’t bother. Plus it's not really do-able to share a lockless bathroom with 9 people. Oh, and it was loud too. But, to be fair, the place is smack in the middle of a chaotic tourist hotspot, so we weren’t exactly expecting peace and quiet. I guess nothing pairs better with itchy mystery mattresses and stranger-scented sheets than a soundtrack of endless street noise up until 8 in the morning. At least that part wasn’t entirely Temple Lodge’s fault. But those dirty sheets? That’s where we draw a line. I spent the night tossing, turning, and wondering what kind of life choices had led me to a sleepless night in a mystery-scented nightmare.

Can get loud on certain nights but the area has thriving nightlife so it’s to be expected wasn’t too much only certain nights was a bit loud

Nothing its beautiful and cosy

For an old man of 73 climbing to to loft bedrooms without a handrail extending past loft floor was impossible. So I used one of the comfy sofas. - Did not detract from enjoyment of the stay and would definitely stay again.
