Cabañas Tico Gringo

A truly fantastic place to stay when visiting Drake’s bay. If you’re a wildlife lover you will be amazed at the number of different birds that can be spotted from the balcony of your lodge. Gringo and Sonia were amazing hosts, helping us book tours, giving us rides to the beach and giving us tips to see certain animals/ birds! They are very passionate about nature and have created a little oasis which we loved. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Beautiful gardens - lots of birds and wildlife which you can watch from your balcony. Spacious apartment, comfy bed. The owner and his family are amazing. He greeted us at the beach to help us get off the boat and take us and our bags up the hill in his vehicle. Helped arrange our tours and dropped us to the meeting point early for this. Super friendly and helpful with anything we needed. We decided to stay an extra night and they arranged for us to move into the bigger apartment as ours was booked out.

Not really a negative but the location is slightly up the hill and a bit of a walk from town, but this does mean it's super quiet which is what we wanted.

The area of hotel was amazing! A garden with lots of animals, aguti, birds- ara parrots, colibers. I loved to wake up very early and watch it on our balcony. The owners were very friendly, they gave us a drive from the boat. The hotel is at the end of this small village and that makes it much more charming. The air conditioner is only in bedroom but it wasn’t obstacle for us.

Friendly welcome, very helpful owner, helped us arrange everything. Beautiful surroundings, saw birds and monkeys from the balcony.

Gringo was very helpful, picking us up from the beach and booking taxis etc. Perfect place to stay while taking a Corcovado tour, the A/C was a lifesaver

Very clean. Well equipped for self catering. Nice space. Away from town centre. Coffee filters with coffee machine. Blender for smoothies. Compact cooker/steamer.

Tico’s Gringos was one of the most incredible places we have ever stayed in. The wild life around the location is like nothing we’d ever experienced before - from monkeys in the trees to tucans and parrots, this place was truly in the lush forest. The place was well set up, with fresh water, a big fridge and cooking facilities. It was clean and tidy and the AC at night was ideal. It was quite spacious also and had Netflix and fast internet. You couldn’t really ask for more. The best part of the holiday was actually chatting with Tico and his wife and learning about the animal behaviour around the property - after a lifetime living in Drake, you can tell they are just as excited about every bird or creature as they were as kids. It was so great to share that excitement with them. Tico also knows everyone and can organise any of the trips for you easily, I recommend organising the activities through him as it tends to be cheaper and goes straight to the locals. We would LOVE to visit again.

The hosts were very nice and very attentive to your needs.

Since its in the jungle, prepare to see some insects. However, when I saw one, the hosts would come right away.

Gringo & Sonja were super flexible with check in, really helpful for any trips, tours and organising our return journey. Gringo also took every opportunity to point out wildlife to us and the best spots for them. The actual cabin is great, perched up on a nice hill, loads of space, clean and two balconies on either side which are so nice for chilling out on.

Honestly nothing.

We had a great few days here, and loved watching toucans and hummingbirds from our balcony! The apartment was super clean (new towels and sheets every 2 days), kitchen was well stocked and the shower excellent. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. It's a 15 minute or so walk down to the beach, with a small supermarket close by and lots more in the town along with restaurants (take cash, there are no ATMs and many restaurants charge more for using a card). We found the walk back up, particularly in the heat of the day, a bit of a slog!

The apartment got very hot and the Aircon and fan weren't always up to the job of cooling the apartment down (only the bedroom has Aircon). The bed was a little uncomfortable, but pretty standard for CR.
