Cabañas Tico Gringo

Great apartment, spacious, clean and comfortable with good WiFi and Aircon worked well. The hosts were lovely. We had two power cuts during our stay which is a common occurrence in Drakes Bay but they gave us extra lights and candles, a gas stove and was able to provide us with an hour's worth of WiFi a couple of times. The shower was warm rather than hot but you really don't need it any hotter in Drakes Bay! The apartment overlooks a beautiful garden where we saw some stunning birds including toucans and humming birds. The location is about 5 mins from the nearest restaurant and 10mins from main town.

There is only Aircon in the bedroom with the double bed in. The other bedroom with the double and single bed in had two standing fans. We didn't find this a problem as it was in November when the nights are slightly cooler. The Aircon room is massive so honestly could fit more beds in.

We had a fantastic stay here! Yeiner and Sonia were incredibly welcoming and helpful hosts, providing a beautiful and comfortable base a short walk into Drake Bay, lending us portable chargers because we had lost ours, telling us about local walks and tours, and putting out fruit for the birds every morning. Sitting on the balcony with our morning coffee and watching the birds at the feeder was wonderful - Cabañas Tico Gringo is set in a beautiful site - surrounded by trees and vegetation and with so much wildlife passing through (including toucans, iguana and agouti). The room was very comfortable and we cooked up some delicious meals on the cooking rings provided in our private kitchen, bottled water was also supplied. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Very functional apartment with a well equipped kitchen.The balcony id overlooking a garden which is ideal for bird watching.

Spacious, quiet jungle cabin. Comfy beds, well stocked kitchen. Two electric rings , a steamer/ rice cooker and a toaster were available for cooking. Good hot jungle shower and effective aircon in the bedroom. Large portable fan for use in the living/kitchen area and on the veranda. Fabulous hosts who were always happy to help. If you arrive by boat Yeinet will pick you up and deliver you back when it's time to leave. Towels and bedding were changed alternate days. The cabins have balconies looking on to a garden. We delighted in watching lots of birds and hummingbirds galore in the garden, an agouti walked through and monkeys used our cabin roof as a shortcut in the evening. The property is up a hill but this is manageable by anyone with a basic level of fitness. There's a small supermarket just around the corner , a bakery , vegetable shops and meat shop plus restaurants 5 to 10 minutes walk away. Thank you Yeinier and Sonia for a fabulous stay.

Everything was amazing!! We had the upstairs apartment, it’s huge. Great internet and the view from the balcony is amazing. A/C in the bedroom works great and the fans for the rest are perfect.

We loved everything about our stay in Cabañas Tico Gringo. Yainer and Sonia are very kind and attentive hosts. The hotel is a 15-minute walk (slightly uphill) from the beach, so Yainer was so kind to pick us up from our boatride and also drove us to all the meeting points for the tours and the boatride back. Its possible to book all the tours at the hotel, for example a Corcovado Day Tour, Snorkeling at Cano Island and a Jungle Night Tour to name a few. We were super happy with the Corcovado Day Tour that was arranged for us. It was also possible to arrange the boat from Sierpe to Drake Bay and vice versa with Yainer and Sonia beforehand, so we didnt have to worry about it. We were in contact with them via whatsapp, which was super convenient, as we speak nearly no spanish. We also heard super good things about the snorkeling tour, but didnt participate as we wanted to relax from our long 7-week trip. And for relaxation, the hotel was also perfect. We had our own 2-room cabin, from which we had a super lovely private balcony where we saw monkey, parrots, colibris and tucans. The kitchen was equipped with a small electric stove (less strong than the gas ones), coffee machine, huge fridge with icebox and a blender. Water to drink, coffee, salt and sugar was already provided, so that was a noce surprise. The rooms were super clean and there was A/C, which we really appreciated after sleeping in a lot of hot dorm rooms with only fan. It didnt bother us that it was a bit more far from town, as Drake Bay itself is super small anyway, all the restaurants and three good supermarkets were in 5-10 minutes walking distance. There is also the possible to walk further away from Town into the jungle to waterfalls in about one hour. All in all, its a bit more pricey in comparison to the other accomodations we stayed at during our journey, but its was totally worth it it we would not want to stay anywhere else in Drake Bay in the future!!!

There was nothing we didn‘t like. We just wish we could speak better Spanish to be able to chat with Yainer and Sonia more.

Really loved our stay here - absolutely beautiful gardens, from our balcony we could see so many birds. Gringo and Sonia were great to communicate with, and arranged us a taxi from the airport and the ferry back to Sierpe. Only about 10 mins walk into town and in a very quiet and peaceful location.

I loved sitting on the deck watching the birds while I ate my breakfast. It is easy to walk to town for dinner. The place was clean and had nice little touches. I slept well here thanks to the air conditioning in the bedroom. The owners were very kind and made sure we had plenty of drinking water.

I had the most amazing stay at Cabañas Tico Gringo. I think the best part were the owners, who took amazing care of us. The answers all my silly questions, provided me with excellent recommendations, and even picked us up from the beach on arrival and dropped us off at our various activities throughout our stay (the Corcovado tour and Isla de Caño tour both required us to be at a meeting point at around 6:00 am, and our hosts very very kindly gave us a ride). The apartments are very cute and it was amazing to see so much wildlife from our balcony. I had seen some reviews commenting on the steps to get to the room - my room was secluded but I didn’t have to go up many steps at all so please don’t let the fear of the steps deter you!
