Cabañas Tico Gringo

Great bird watching because in many of the cabins you are high up so you are looking down on the greenery and level with some tree canopy. We liked sitting on the balcony and watching birds. We also liked watching the agoutis run around the property. During the day we barely noticed any bugs outside which was great. Inside the place was clean and had lots of cookware, cutlery, and plates/bowls. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Our apartment was enormous with well equipped kitchen. Great to have a fridge to keep drinks cold and a coffee maker for our morning coffee. Had a gorgeous veranda overlooking gardens with comfy chairs. Saw lots of birds including toucans from the veranda.  As slightly out of town very quiet at night which is great. The walk into town was only about 15 mins so close enough to restaurants, supermarkets and activity centres. Slept really well here. Nice to have air conditioning in the main bedroom. Apartment well maintained and bedding and towels were changed during our 4 night visit. Owners very welcoming and helped with our luggage. Good off road secure parking. Definitely recommend this place.

Nice apartment in great location. Loved the balcony with view of plants and birds. Clean and quiet! Appreciated ride to suite plus ride back to main Beach for boat pickup.

Gringo, his nickname since childhood, and his wife and family were fantastic! They could not have been better hosts. He picked us up when we arrived from Sierpe and also gave us lifts for tours and upon departure. The individual rooms were located amongst the trees of his hillside property and yiu really felt surrounded by nature. We saw all sorts of birds from the balcony, including a toucan who was in tree next to us which made for great shots! The air conditioning in the bedroom was strong enough to keep us cool day or night. Gringo also helped with recommendations and tour planning. Awesome stay!

I booked the location because it wasn't right in the middle of town and I was hoping to experience more nature and wildlife and it delivered - fantastic! If you don't want to be on the edge of the main town and don't want to ever make the walk to get there, you'll want to consider this as it's hilly. But, Gringo and family took us back and forth to the beach several times for tours and arrival/departure so the walks we made were because we enjoyed exploring the shops, restaurants and residents/dogs along the way.

The house was nice and large and well-equipped. Beds were comfie. The owners are wonderful people and very helpful to us.

I had a fantastic stay at this place! Gringo and his wife, Sonia, were incredibly helpful and welcoming from the start. When we had trouble locating our luggage from the transfer, Gringo personally took me to collect it—such a lifesaver. One of the best things about staying here is Gringo himself. He knows everyone in town, and everyone knows him, which makes you feel like you’re with local royalty. He’s also a great resource for arranging boat transfers and excursions, making everything easy and stress-free. The accommodation itself has everything you need and is great value for money. Mornings on the balcony were a highlight—sipping coffee while watching wildlife was an unforgettable experience. If you’re in Drake Bay, I can’t recommend the Rio Claro floating river tour enough! It’s an amazing experience and surprisingly underrated compared to other activities in the area. Don’t miss it! Would absolutely stay here again. Thanks again to Gringo and Sonia for making our trip so smooth and enjoyable!

Absolutely loved this little piece of paradise. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment with the terrace that overlooks the garden and it was heaven. We saw more birdlife here than in Corcovado national park as gringo puts out bananas every day on a feeding table so toucans come and tanagers and many other birds. Furnishings are simple but all in all rather beautiful with lovely polished wooden floors. Aircon is only in the main bedroom but there are plenty of fans for the living room dining room and other bedroom which also has a lovely balcony out the back overlooking the forest. Gringo was so nice and picked us up and dropped us off at the beach with our luggage and he's also available to make any bookings that you want for tours or for the boat trip back to Sierpe. We stayed for four nights and wish it could have been longer and I can wholeheartedly recommend anyone staying here.

We had a great time at Cabanas Tico Gringo. Waking up with all the birds in the middle of nature was so nice every day. The owners are very nice, sweet, responsive and helpful. They picked us up from the beach and brought us back to take the boat to Sierpe. The kitchens were very complete with rice cooker, toaster, and small electric stoves. Coffee was provided. In general Drake Bay is a special place and the Tico Gringo definitely contributed to the experience
