Les Cocon des Pentes de la Soie

The general location of this apartment (in the 1st arrondissement) was great! Quick walk into the main city as well as more cultural areas such as La Croix-Rousse and a 15ish minute bus ride to the main train station, Gare Lyon Part-Dieu. The facilities in the apartment I had were good with a full kitchen and washing machine. The bed was also fairly comfy and the TV was internet connected (you have to log into your own Netflix). There are numerous corner stores in the area where you can buy supplies and cook for yourself. The windows provide good natural light and the blinds block out a lot of street light. Washing machine detergent is also provided and there is a decorative ladder that some clothes can be hung onto to dry. The apartment I stayed in was the one with the green painted walls/green couch in the photos. There is also a bus that runs from the front of the apartment and a second bus (the #13) a short 2 minute walk away which takes you to Gare Lyon Part-Dieu.

There is no aircon and the fan provided was ok, however when you close the windows for quite and safety at night, it's tough to keep the room cool enough to sleep well. There was also a beam in the middle of the apartment. As someone who is 5'7 (172cm), I was fine to walk under it (JUST) in the main living area but I was too tall and had to duck in the bathroom. That was a bit annoying and anyone over 5'7 should be aware that you might have to do a lot of ducking. I'd also paid for early check in (from 2pm instead of 4pm) which I ended up not using as my plane was delayed. The early check in was from 2pm but I didn't get an email with the early check in details until after 3pm. Just a note if you do choose to go with the early check in option. NOTE - this apartment is halfway up a hill. If you might struggle with steep hills, you may have to reconsider this location. To get from the front door to the apartment is a steep and narrow staircase. If booking here, best to avoid bringing large bulky suitcases.

The apartment had a nice aesthetic and was on a really good location.

Even though I have paid for an early access to the apartment, I had to wait over 30 min for someone to open the door so that I can take the keys. On the top of that,no one would answer the phone. When we ve entered the apartment we saw that the bed was not made, we needed to make the bed alone. Moreover we had to buy hand soap and toilet paper since there wasnt any in the apartment.

Getting in to the building did not succeed with a cryptic code, but luckily a lady let us in - after that everything was easy. Please try to make the entering somehow easier.

The studio was clean enough and it was decorated with taste. The price is good.

The process to get the key was an absolute hassle. The instructions could be much clearer and the customer service was horrible. They respond super slow when you need them most. Looked like the shower was starting to have a mold problem which is pretty unhygienic.

The apartments were in a lovely part of Lyon, felt like we were in the heart of the old city, with a more local feel to the restaurants and bars that surrounded. It was only a 5-10 minute walk down the hill to the main City and just across the rivers from all the main sites - all walkable with ease. We were pleased with the apartments and the hosts were excellent at staying in touch if we had any questions. For example, we arrived quite late (9pm) and noticed no towels in one of the apartments - we notified the hosts over the app and within 2 hours, a set of towels had arrived while we were out starting to enjoy Lyon.

Although it worked well in the end, collecting and dropping off the keys from the local supermarket did give some anxiety before the trip. Knowing we were on an evening flight, there did not feel like any flexibility if the flight had been delayed. In addition, we had to drop the keys before 7am to catch our flight home, and the supermarket attendant was a little reluctant at first to take the keys at 6.50am (although he did in the end). However, the supermarket is directly opposite and open 7am - midnight (apparently) so if your flight is during the day then this should not be an issue.

The Apartment is well proportioned with more than enough space to stretch out. The Bus stop is right outside the front door, literally, with a convenience store on the opposite corner (with wine and cheese and bread and everything really) and a pharmacy accross from that. When you know the public transport system, this location is amazing! After a long day of exploring, it was great to pop open a bottle of wine, sit at the dinner table and relax. Even did some laundry which was a great plus - just remember to pack some laundry detergent 😉 We had a brilliant time and will happily recommend and come stay again!

Nothing mayor, just a few logistical things we think will help future guests. We would have appreciated clearer instructions on a few points before arriving in Lyon : 1. How to use the bus to get to the apartment (Hotel de Villle - direction Croix Rousse and hop off at Pouteau stop, which is right outside the apartment) For someone from South Africa, where public transport is not the norm, it can be daunting navigating the city and you end up wasting money on Uber when its not needed at all. 2. Which companies to use for luggage storage, if needed. 3. Which door to use to enter the apartment : we first went inside the building, thinking the entry is from inside, because the instruction to use the black badge was first, only to realise the entrance was actually outside. 4. How to lock the door of the apartment (hold the handle upright in the 12 o'clock position, lock the door and release) Hope this helps! 🤗

The property smelt of mould as soon as you walked in. The whole place was humid and no windows to open only the door which opens straight onto the street. Shortly after we realised the wall in the bedroom was covered in mould and the bedroom sheets were all damp from humidity and smelt like mould too. The shower was also covered in mould and looked like it had not been cleaned in a long time. We attempted to ring the owner with the number provided but went to an automated number and then rang out. There was no option on booking.com to reply to the messages either. Not having any option for the first night we stayed there as we had no where else. This was a big mistake. We woke up with headaches from the mould and the strong air freshners which were put all over the small apartment no doubt to try and hide the smell. My partner woke up coughing and constantly sneezing and has been sick since. We should have never have stayed for the first night the place is inhabitable. We left first thing the next morning and checked into another hotel.

Location Nicely renovated

Visible large area of damp with black and white mould. Smell of mildew. I left feeling ill. NO ventilation. Only a door exiting directly onto a busy pavement. Checking in not easy. No garbage bag provided for inside bin. Was asked to remove garbage but no bin available outside.
