NEW Grade 2 historic flat in the heart of Chester

Literally the only good point is the location - in the heart of Chester, you're close to everything

The flat is simply filthy. Upon entering, you're hit with the vile stench of damp in the communal hallways and a carpet covered in stains. Inside the flat, things don't improve much. Dirt and grime abound here. Great if you're a fan of insects, as there are so many cobwebs. Every cup was greasy, there was mouldy food under counters, the sofa was covered in animal hair, and the second 'bedroom' is little more than a shelf accessed by a rickety set of steps, loosly screwed to a wall. Crawling room only - the area is approximately 3 feet high. Upon inspecting this shelf bedroom, we found so many webs it was quickly deemed unfit for purpose. We had no choice but to use the (filthy) sofa to sleep on, nestling amongst the crumbs, hair and toenails. I wish I were joking. The shower floods after approximately 2 minutes of use. There are no curtains in the apartment so great for exhibitionists and people who like to sleep with a bright torch like light shining in their eyes. The noise from the street was unreal - made worse by the fact that there is only single glazing. Put simply, it was like trying to sleep in a rowdy, grotty, very well lit pub. We booked for 2 nights but only stayed for one. Paid for alternative accommodation for the 2nd night - yes, it was that bad. Apartment owner unresponsive to complaints.

The power supply seemed to be variable in voltage- this caused the fridge to alarm, possibly explained poor internet speed and definitely affected charging of phones etc This should be checked. I have property maintenance background so was easily able to deal with these problems- the fridge alarm may have caused issues for others!

Comfortable and clean, nice decor and everything you needed was there. We were very impressed with it.

There was a high pitched sound (alarm type) that went off every hour or so (and through the night)

Decor is awesome. Everything I needed for an enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.

The owner, the host

The location. If I had known if was directly opposite 2 late night bars (with music blaring until 4am), fights, police vans, screaming and excessive noise I would have never booked the property. The bed was uncomfortable and the property was not properly cleaned. I don't want to do a "Four In A Bed", but I could say a lot more. I cut our stay short from 5 days to 2 nights.

The style of the property was good, the bed was comfy and the living space was a great size. The shower was excellent.

The fridge didn't work, there was no response from the host on this subject. Luckily the freezer compartment was just about fridge temperature! Loved the intermittent beeping. The oven trays were disgusting, there was an oil filled frying pan in there too. The plates and glasses all needed a wash before being usable. The bathroom could have been cleaned better, nobody likes other people's hairs. There was a smell of cigarettes which subsided slightly over the three days of having the windows open. There were no instructions on where to take the rubbish.

Perfect location, spacious apartment, comfortable beds, beautifully decorated, nice kitchen facilities. The 2nd floor loft bed was incredibly comfortable!

Only one minor suggestion would be for the property to add a curtain to the large window where the upstairs loft bed is. Although it doesn’t seem that any neighbors could see in, it was not pleasant changing clothes at night in front of an uncovered window.
