The Wee Highland Coo

Amazing location! Could see the castle from the bedroom window. Everything was a short walk away. Very easy to get to as well!

It was a bit grotty. Lots of marks on the walls, damp around the door, bathroom smelt like rotten wood. Had to clean any dishes and cutlery before using them. My friend slept on the sofa bed and hardly got any sleep due to the night club right opposite. There were also some stains on the bedding and towels, they were clean of course but it was still a little off putting.

Nice location (can literally see the castle from the bedroom!), cute themed decor (especially that one painting in the bathroom which made me laugh out loud the first time I used the loo), everything you need for a base to sightsee from! Owner very helpful and attentive- we had a blown fuse issue while we stayed and he came out and fixed it same day I reported it.

Could have used a separate recycling bin as well as a regular kitchen bin. We like to recycle and making it easier to do so would have been really good!

Location is perfect - you can see the castle from the bed!!

Bit hard to park and get bags to it, also did get a little lost finding it as was on wrong side of the road!

Location Staff Restaurant

The room and hallways smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Lift out of service Parking not included as stated when booking and required a walk of a few blocks.

Was self catering, lots of space & clean, reasonably well equipped in kitchen with fresh milk in fridge

There was no running hot water for kitchen or bathroom sinks, despite numerous operations of turning the timer switch to maximum on time, & an on light showing all is well. The immersion heater obviously must be faulty or dead. As we were staying for 2 nights only, we coped with washing in cold water, but treated ourselves to a separate electric hot shower which did work, when necessary. The sofa wasn`t fit for purpose, was like sitting in a trough which made viewing the TV very difficult, & being perched on an extremely low cabinet, with a much higher occasional table sat between sofa & TV, watching any programmes was a hard uncomfortable task, rather than a pleasure. In bathroom, toilet brush handle was broken making a difficult job to clean loo.

So close to Grassmarket in bustling Edinburgh..room was basic but clean and comfy and we loved the Highland Coo theme everywhere in the room. The view from the landing outside our room was of the back of the castle!! Amazing!

We couldn't find the accomodation as there is no signage outside but the owner/manager answered my questions so quickly that we found our way in!! Very thankful. Be aware there are a lot of stairs so I will not forget to ask for a lower floor next time!! (64 year old with bad knees..lol) Apart from that..we loved it!

Location

Very basic. No kitchen utilities except those left by previous guests. Not even up to a basic hotel standard.

Was quaint , very close to where we wanted to go , problems were corrected right away !

I liked everything about it but I would suggest that people are warned about the stairs because you have to be physically able to walk up them !
