Luke Stays - Front Street

It was relatively close to amenities.

It was very dusty and cold.

Location was fine and easy access to Newcastle. Property was warm and spacious and quiet. Kitchen had a kettle, microwave, oven / hob and a washing machine. Property had outside space.

We had a booking for 4 adults. The property was 3 single beds and 1 sofa bed, which we understood when making the booking for a 2 night stay. However, only 3 beds were made up and the sofa bed was missing bedding in its entirety. One of the guests had to sleep on an unmade unclean sofa bed, with no sheets, duvet or pillow for one of the nights. Hosts were unable to be contacted until the following day and took some chasing to be assured bedding was going to be supplied for the night. A brand new duvet and pillow was supplied along with clean sheets. My comment on contact - the website / email etc provides a number and states that the team can be contacted at any time for anything. This is not the case and should not be advertised as such. The premises were unfortunately not the cleanest, paintwork is tired and the carpets had lots of burn marks. Overall, a little tired and turn over was bare minimum. The kitchen was not well appointed for the number of guests the property should accommodate, e.g not enough glasses and cups. Also, I was requested (after confirming the booking) for a £100 deposit and ID. This was not mentioned as part of the booking.com process and I have never been asked this of any other booking.com booking previously. I am now waiting for the deposit to be returned.

Stains on carpets/walls & couch. Couch in particular was very badly stained, we didn't even want to sit on it. Only 3 dining chairs for a 4 person apartment. Also not enough glasses/mugs etc. We had a two night stay (Fri-sun) shower didn't work and wasn't fixed until 5pm on the Saturday. Hard to find, number on here doesn't work. Beds are very small and the mattresses are very cheap and uncomfortable - you can feel every spring. Only one extremely thin pillow per person. The Security Deposit should be advertised. There's nothing to say that a security deposit needs to be paid until after you've made the booking which is non-refundable so it doesn't leave you the option to cancel if you don't want to or cannot pay the additional fee. Overall not clean, not comfortable and the shower not working and not being fixed until 24 hours into our stay is unacceptable.

There is no mention in the advert that the host requires a deposit or photographic ID. Whilst this is not normally a problem, I booked it for my staff to attend just before leaving to go on holiday. This meant that i then had to rush home, dig out my passport and input the details - quite annoying and it could easily have been avoided by stating the requirement for ID within the advert. When attending the property, it wasn't very clear which property was the hosts... my staff called the host on the phone number provided which must have been a foreign number, as the call cost £33 - again, not clear within the advert details. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS IF CALLING THE HOST! Location was fine and the apartment was fair - i would say value for money but the experience overall was poor due to the issues highlighted above.
