Royal Mile Budget Apartments

The location is premium, just a few meters to Edinburgh Castle. Lots of museums, cafes, shops and restaurants in the beautiful historical city center. Check in and out was very easy. The kitchenette and shower were good, and the staff was very kind to provide a crib to my baby. They offered fresh linens and towels, some small toiletries and welcome cookies. They came with new towels on day 4.

The medieval spiral staircase was quite difficult with the baby, luggage and pram. It is well advertised but I was definitely not prepared for that. The apartment was on something like 5-6th floor up the narrow stairs. The furniture was not comfortable nor in a good state. The bed was most definitely broken with some very uncomfortable wood in the middle. The couch in the living room was also broken and with a thin mattress thrown on top, certainly it could not be folded out as a bed. The internet was on but we couldn't make it work. There was some instant coffee provided but not a french press or something to make coffee in the kitchen. They could offer some basics like salt and oil. Sincerely, for the price this place could be a little better kept.

Todo lo demás, desde los problemas con el mail y el check in en sí. Nadie respondía ni llamadas, ni mail, ni mensajes. El apartamento es bastante pequeño, sucio, con muchas humedades, la cama muy dura, el sofá una tabla para dormir y con una escalera poco accesible. Booking nos devolvió el dinero porque no pudo contactar con el apartamento y ellos solo se interesaron porque se pagara. Ni una disculpa, no interés de ningún tipo por el problema que tuvimos. No volvemos ni en broma.

Hallo, ich habe über booking.com folgendes gebucht: „Royal Mile Budget Apartments“ in Edinburgh (Adresse: James Court, 493 Lawnmarket, Old Town, Edinburgh, EH1 2PB, Großbritannien) vom 28.05. bis 01.06.2026 und dafür 1055 Euro bezahlt. Die bei booking angezeigten Bilder sind keineswegs mit den wirklichen Zuständen vor Ort vergleichbar. Ich hatte Apartment Nr.9 bekommen. Insgesamt war das Objekt sehr schmutzig und stark verschimmelt. Die Wände im Schlafzimmer und der Küche hatten extreme Wasserflecken, das Bett in der Küche (!) hatte keine richtige Matratze, sondern als Unterlage nur eine etwas dickere, sehr schmutzige Matratze. Die Matratzen im Schlafzimmer waren sehr hart. Das Schlimmste allerdings war das Badezimmer. Schimmel soweit das Auge reicht, schmutzige verschimmelte Wände. Verschimmelter Duschvorhang. Rund um die Badewanne Schimmel, ebenso an der Decke und sogar am Spiegelrahmen. Der Schimmel war schwarz und nicht neu und bildet sich nicht in kurzer Zeit, so das man sah das dieser schon lange dort war. Bei dem Haus handelt es sich um altes Gemäuer. Trotzdem kann man sowas sauber halten. Des Weiteren war auf den Bildern bei booking eine Wendeltreppe mit Handlauf zu sehen. Dieser Handlauf war in der Realität nicht vorhanden. Zum Beweis habe ich alles fotografiert.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst Airbnb experiences we have had. The apartment we received did not match the one advertised at all, and the listing is highly misleading. The advertisement shows a nice open-plan apartment without carpets or large steps inside the flat. In reality, the apartment had carpets everywhere, which made my allergy much worse, and the layout was completely different. Instead of the advertised open-plan space, the property was divided into two separate rooms and looked nothing like the photos. It appears the host is using photos from different apartments in the same listing, which is extremely dishonest. When we raised this issue, the host claimed, “We do not have another apartment,” despite other guest reviews suggesting otherwise. Everything we describe is documented in our pictures. The flat was also poorly equipped for three guests — there was not enough cutlery, no chopping board, and no washing-up liquid provided. All plates, cutlery, and mugs were very dirty on arrival, with food still stuck on some of them. The washing machine smelled terrible and had mouldy washing tablets left inside. The bathroom was very old and mouldy, with visible mould throughout, making it feel unhygienic. One bedroom window could not be opened, another had broken glass, the table was unstable and rocking constantly, and the sofa was so uncomfortable and low that it was almost impossible to get up from it. Access to the flat was also very difficult, with around 60 steep spiral stairs leading up to it, which was not clearly communicated Avoid flat 9. We requested a partial refund because the apartment we booked was clearly not the apartment we received, but the host refused everything and made no effort to resolve the situation. Overall, this listing is misleading and dishonest. The property needs serious improvements in cleanliness, maintenance, accessibility, and transparency. We would absolutely not stay here again and would not recommend it.

Zentrale Lage, einfaches erreichen, super witziger Treppenaufgang zur Unterkunft

Wohnung sieht leider sehr gebraucht aus. Im Bad war soweit alles sauber, da aber weder ein Fenster noch eine Lüftungsanlage vorhanden war, dementsprechend auch einfach feuchte Stellen und schwarze Flecken. Küche ist auch alles sauber gewesen jedoch hat man auch hier deutliche Gebrauchsspuren gesehen auch an den Wänden. Es hat sehr noch eingesperrter Luft geruchen als wir das erste Mal in die Wohnung sind.
