Kaikoan

Kaikoan was a perfect Kyoto stay for the 3 days we were in the city. It really gave us an insight in to how locals might have lived in the 150 year old Town House. The property was very clean, with an excellent shower. Although traditional tatami matt sleeping, plenty of futon mattresses were provided making for a very good night's sleep. The host was very welcoming, and showed us all the amenities. Kaikoan was within easy walking distance of the Sanjo metro station. Cannot recommend Kaikoan enough.

There is nothing negative to say about Kaikoan

Absolute wonderful stay for almost 2 months!It’s a traditional Japanese town house (machiya). We stayed in the Ukon house (me and my 7 year old son), and it was wonderful! The hosts were friendly and always ready to help - big shout out to Chiye! The stairs are a little narrow but fine and sturdy when walking down. Kitchen works absolutely fine (kettle, coffee machine, stove, sink, fridge and freezer). And there’s a powerful shower in the bathroom! There’s two AC units - one upstairs and one downstairs which cool and heat with no problem. Do not miss out, it’s wonderful, clean, in a great (central and quiet) neighbourhood, and will only add to your experience of Kyoto.

Everything was perfect! We absolutely loved our stay. Chie was incredibly helpful and gave us some great tips that made our trip even better. We highly recommend staying here — you won’t be disappointed! We were traveling with two young children and had the best time. Gion is also nearby, and we enjoyed walking there every day.

El alojamiento es una experiencia en una casa japonesa clásica, muy cerca del centro, lo que permite explorar por la noche sin preocuparte de perder un tren. El baño goemon es una experiencia interesante y la anfitriona Chie es muy amable y nos ayuda a hacer la estancia más amena.

Pese a que la casa (Shizuka) figura en la página como valida para 4 personas, la anfitriona nos informó de que es muy pequeña para 4.Al dormir nos dividimos 2 personas en el piso de arriba y 2 en el de abajo. mientras que en la planta de abajo dormimos bien, arriba se quejaron de que el ruido y las vibraciones de las maquinas del aire acondicionado no les dejaban dormir, por lo que tuvimos que apagar ambos aires. Además pese a que hay una lavadora de uso comunal, lo que no hay es secadora, lo que dependiendo del tiempo y la época en que visites puede resultar un problema.

Traditionnel voir rustique mais particulièrement authentique, ce logement nous a comblé. Spacieux et confortable, idéalement placé dans une rue calme, tout proche du quartier de Gion et du centre animé de Kyoto.

A cozy Japanese townhouse alongside four others in an atmospheric private alleyway. We stayed in "Komachi" which has a fully equipped kitchen, tatami rooms, traditional furnishings, a one person outdoor onsen, roomy bathroom/bathtub, and a record player with a nice collection which was fun to use. In a nice, quiet neighborhood. Convenient location in the city center - the metro stations, river, and main shopping/dining areas of Kyoto are 5-10 min. walk away. The very friendly and helpful hosts gave us thorough explanations about the quirks of the apartment which are to be expected in a historic building like this and handy information about the neighborhood facilities (such as a very good family-run soba place nearby, Shinano, where we ate several times since our daughter loved it and so did we). We would definitely stay here again!
