Merrythought Cottage - entire 2 bed, 2 bath cottage in the heart of Rye citadel

Rye is a delightful little town with lots to see and do. The cottage is immaculate in every respect, tho the downstairs bathroom is very small, and might not be suitable for elderly visitors, or anyone with restricted mobility. Definitely hoping to return as the trip was far too short! Winchelsea is also well worth visiting, by train or bus from Rye.

Can't really think of anything .... we had one wet afternoon, but no one can be blamed for that!!

Very clean and everything you could ask for was in the flat. The welcome pack had everything you would need for a weekend. Beds very comfy but upstairs one just needs leaving off as my sister kept rolling out of bed lol.

The only thing was the downstairs bathroom was very small but having said that was of very high quality.

Comfortable with well functioning modern facilities. Lovely living room. Good location. There was a nice, actually quite useful, welcome package.

car access is difficult, you need to unload on the other side of the church but not really a problem for us. We arrived on the last day of the Jazz festival which meant there was noise until late night as stage equipment was dismantled and removed.

The cottage from the outside is chocolate box and many people who passed stopped to take pictures. When you get inside is is beautifully decorated in a modern style with many interesting pieces of art and pictures adorning the walls. The kitchen is modern with all the appliances you need for your stay and all top quality Bedrooms are tastefully decorated with lovely wooden flooring throughout. The bathroom are beautiful with all mod cons, one with bath and shower and the other with just a shower. The bath and showers are operated by a one touch switch which helps to control water flow and temperature. The cottage is centrally located so nothing is far away. Take a chance with renting the cottage and you won’t be disappointed.

Nothing to dislike

The location was ideal for exploring Rye and we loved looking out at the church. The cottage clean and bright, host left a generous selection for breakfast, the kitchen well equipped (though we ate out both nights so didn't do any serious cooking at the property), excellent shower.

Important to realise there is no local parking and guests must unload then arrange parking at train station or elsewhere and walk back up the hill to the cottage. We arrived in middle of torrential downpour, had trouble using the key lock box as didn't know you needed to put # before the four number code (host fortunately answered phone and provided information) so all a bit fraught. Clear instructions/directions about finding the cottage, unloading, parking, and lock box would have been helpful.

We loved the location of the property, next to the beautiful church at the top of Rye. We enjoyed the perfectly kitted out house, great showers, well equipped kitchen, lovely decor full of character, pictures and books, all the thoughtful finishing touches.
