A window that could open would have been good

The apartment was far above expectations and the location was exceptional. It was clean and comfortable and I would not want to stay anywhere else when I am next in York.

Nitpick but the charge for cleaning is a bit cheeky when you have to take the bins out - I was equally worried that this wasn't sensible as the bin bag was just supposed to sit outside and it was quite windy, but that is what we were asked to do so we did. Other reviewers have mentioned the noise which I can understand with the dustbin going past in the morning, but I feel this is the price of a central location at street level. My only real complaint is that the blinds in the bedroom didn't fully cover the light from getting through the window, so we were always woken up at first light.

Apartment was pretty and very nicely located. Well furnished with good taste. Nice television and serviceable WiFi. Price was ok compared to other options. Very easy check in and check out thanks to the code on the door.

The biggest issue of the apartment is that there isn’t a single window that can be opened. The nice windows have all been restricted from being opened by a large glass panel bolted around them. Needless to say, any cooking smell stays in the apartment for a long time, and the room upstairs becomes too stuffy after a few days. I was also surprised by the complete absence of any toiletries with the exception of a small bar of soap.

Brilliant location with view of Minster through bedroom window as well as from the kitchen table downstairs. This property is 200 feet across the street from the front door of the Minster, so you are definitely at the heart of the city. Groceries are 10 minutes' walk to the M&S and Co-op, with Tesco Express and Sainsbury Local even closer if you are preparing meals in. Note that the bedroom is up one flight of steps, and the bathroom and kitchen/sitting area is downstairs on ground level. Windows are double-glazed to keep out street and pub noise but live music from next door pub can still be heard some nights. The kitchen is well equipped with a two-pad induction cooktop, and the microwave has a built-in grill and convection oven feature as well. There's plenty of instant hot water available for the walk-in shower.

Missed having a dishwasher, but there's not much space in the compact kitchen. The windows don't open but there is a low-flow ventilation system - it did get a little stuffy inside. There were two fan units upstairs in the bedroom, and as the weather was cool during our stay we didn't need them.

The high Petergate is in a very good location. It’s very quirky and has everything you need for a short city break. We will definitely book again.
