GOCCE VILLAS - El Royale Suites Sorrento

It was comfortable and spacious. Our host, Grazia, was very welcoming and made me feel like we were family. I enjoyed my stay in this place, it gave me a place to relax after spending some time sightseeing. The bed was good.

The entrance wasn't great. However, the apartment was good.

Great location, a few minutes walk from the harbour and old town. Even though a short distance from the town, the location was really quiet. Quite a nice view from the balcony.

The pictures make the apartment look great, must have been from when it was first refurbed, however, the apartment is looking a little tired and could do with a revamp. I think it was overpriced in comparison to other properties in a similar area. As we left booking a little late, other properties had gone, again, by comparison, I would say it was overpriced by around 500/600 euros. There was only one bathroom which was a tad difficult between 4 of us. The apartment sleeps 6 so 1 bathroom would not be good. There was a separate shower in a utility room, plenty of room to add an extra toilet and sink really.

I was emailed at midnight the day before we were to check in that the air conditioning was broken and they cancelled our reservation which was already paid in full for my family of 5. I was offered a different location Caruso 6 which was way outside the area we wanted. As I replied to the email I was being ghosted all day trying to get more info so I had to start searching for other hotels during our Vatican guided tour which I missed most of unfortunately. There were very few hotels/airbnbs left that were nowhere near the core of Sorrento. Finally they replied and I accepted their offer. Warning… this other location was a 15 minute walk uphill from the core on a small, narrow high traffic road where you have to walk on the road as there are no sidewalks. Myself and my wife were very concerned for the safety of our children. It is a $40EU one way taxi ride to that location from downtown so multiple rides add up quick. There was no going back to the hotel before dinner to get freshened up and changed after day excursions as the hotel was such a workout to get to. We had to make the best of it.

The location was convenient and we were able to fit our family of six into one apartment. The unit was clean.

The floors were a little dirty as our white socks were dirty from walking on the floor. I didn't like being a tourist in a building where locals lived. I did not know that when I booked the apartment.

Jasvir was an incredible host who made us feel so welcome and at home. He gave us many recommendations for places to visit and he checked on us throughout the stay to see if we needed anything. The apartment was spotlessly clean, well furnished and in a great location. 5-10 mins from the coast and less than 5 mins to the nearest bars and restaurants. It was great for us to have 2 showers as we were a group of 5. I couldn’t recommend this place for a holiday enough.
