Old Chilli House

The by far greatest hosts we had in Sri Lanka. We enjoyed Kris and his families warm welcome, their delicious food, and planning our trip around the area. The rooms were well equipped and felt like a true home to us. It is not far from the beach and the place has a lovely nature around.

It was very clean and had a nice view! We had our personal kitchen where we prepared food.

The apartment is beautiful inside and out. You can tell there’s a lot of time put into making the space homely and comfortable. Kris is an amazing host, greeted us with cold coconuts and lots of advice about the area. I wish we could have stayed longer!

The Old Chili House is just the perfect place to stay!! Especially if you want some peace and quiet away from the noisy city Center. Kris, the owner, is one of the most attentive and nicest host we have ever encountered! He and his lovely family live downstairs. Anything you need - Kris is your man! He organised everything for us and when we had a little medical “emergency” he drove us straight to the doctor and made sure we got everything we need from the pharmacy. Highly recommend to do a day trip with him to the temple / koggala lake, we had such a nice time! He will tell you lots about the country & culture. There are two apartments, ours was on the left and it was huge!! Great balcony with a chill out area where you can watch the monkeys snacking on bananas. Big kitchen with everything you need for cooking yourself some food which is a nice change as most apartments in Sri Lanka don’t have that. But please don’t miss out on the delicious dinner they offer! Or even take a cooking class with Devika, Kris’s wive, where she will show you how to prepare the most delicious curry’s. We haven’t tried the breakfast but are sure, that it’s also very delicious! The bedroom is very big with enough space for your clothes and we loved the bathroom because the shower is behind a little wall and not right next to the toilet like in most Sri Lankan bathrooms. The A/C works perfect and the wifi is excellent. If you are a light sleeper take some earplugs with you as sometimes the dogs in the neighbourhood bark very loud but that happens everywhere :) You can take a shortcut into town which will take you up to 15-20min to the Main Street or a tuk tuk for about 500-600 LKR. We can’t recommend this place enough!!!

Very kind and friendly host. Helped us with baggages, gave us great tips and the accomodation just feel like home. Very clean, roomy and nice. We were happy to stay there! :)

Really nice Apartment right outside Unawatuna. It's located in a small village in the jungle. Kris and his family are truly the best hosts you can imagine. Overall we can highly recommend staying with them. The apartment has everything you'll need to be happy.

It is true to the reviews and pictures shared on this platform.very spacious room with good facilities.The bed was so comfortable and it was very big enough for one person.Passion of the stay owners to host guests and provide the same experience for each guest was what stood out for me.Welcomed me with a coconut water and prepared scrumptious Srilankan breakfast spread.Kris and his family have done a great job guiding me, answering my questions and showing me around.Thank you so much!!

If the bedroom could have one tubelight and the location is very inside with no access to cafes.

The stay with Kris and Devika was very pleasant. Kris was very helpful throughout our stay. He took the time to take us to Galle and Mirissa with his tuktuk. For the smallest things he will give you advice and solutions. He takes great care of his guests. They even welcome you with a fresh coconut ! The room is very clean, the bed huge and very comfortable. There's even a large, well designed kitchen and terrace. The Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. Super stay, I recommend ! The owners were very friendly. They gave us a lot of useful information and recommendations about Unawatuna and they are also very nice to talk to. The breakfast was great and the dinner was also very tasteful 🤩. The appartement was the best, so clean and so luxurious. We booked one night extra because it was so good to be in the Old Chilli House 🌶 .
