Pine cottage with private hot tub

Comfy, clean cottage in a great location for walking up Hen Cloud or The Roaches. Comfortable beds and seating. We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub each evening.

The dark, hot tub, being away from the world, loved having hen cloud, the roaches and Lud's Church within walking distance.

On Saturday night we had the people staying above having what sounded like a disco above the bedroom and a woman's laughter until 2am. I know this isn't under the control of the property but the hard floors or creaking floors and thin ceiling made every sound feel like they were in the room with us. We were trying to sleep from 10.30pm so woke at 7am to pack for a very tired drive home. This ruined our peaceful stay. 😞

I had a truly disappointing experience at this Airbnb, and I would not recommend it to anyone. First off, the check-in window was 4-6pm, even though there was a key safe, which made no sense. The place was covered in rules that were plastered everywhere, almost as if they were trying to convince you it was a 5-star luxury stay, but it was far from it. We were expected to do all the cleaning during our holiday, which was just outrageous. The glasses provided were mismatched, with one friend having to drink out of a plastic cup. There was leftover food stuck to the cutlery, and the entire place felt dirty. To make matters worse, there were hairs in the bed, and we found a toenail on the floor. The mugs were filthy, and it just didn’t feel like a relaxing environment at all. Instead of feeling refreshed in the morning, we were stuck doing a full cleaning shift. It was ridiculous. On top of everything, we were constantly threatened with £100 fines for not following all the overbearing rules. This place has potential, but it’s overshadowed by poor cleanliness and an overly strict attitude. I’d definitely never stay here again.

The cottage is lovely. Very remote location up an extremely bumpy track so I would recommend using a 4 x 4. The location is very scenic and ideal for a countryside walk, weather permitting

A minor issue was no spatula to remove items from the frying pan. Other than that the kitchen was well equipped. The larger issue is feeling watched whilst in the hot tub. Whilst I admit we maybe didn’t read and comprehend the notes for use adequately, we didn’t expect to be watched on cctv and then reprimanded for leaving the lid off after use (was 1 degree outside and we went to warm up and dry off inside before my husband went out to replace and secure the lid). By this time it had already been done and we got told off via message and in person. We then felt watched and uncomfortable. Even had a chap stand at the gate briefly looking through the window. We didn’t get full use out of the hot tub after that as we didn’t want to risk being watched again. I assumed initially that the cameras were there for safety, not for watching the guests.

The surrounding area is wonderfully tranquil, providing a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The view outside the property is beautiful, adding to the charm of the location. Inside, the accommodation was very clean and well-maintained. The property heated up quickly and retained warmth even after turning the heating off, creating a cosy and comfortable environment. The bathroom was modern and spotless, and the shower was impressively powerful—one of the best I’ve experienced in an accommodation like this. The beds were also very comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep.

The description of ‘Pine Cottage’ is quite misleading—this is more like a converted stable rather than a true cottage. The bedrooms and bathroom have no windows, and the living/dining/kitchen area has only small windows, making the space feel quite closed in with limited views. There are rules and regulations posted everywhere, which took away from what was meant to be a relaxing break. A 4 PM check-in meant we arrived in the dark, and the road leading up to the accommodation was quite scary, with large potholes. The 10 AM–10 PM hot tub usage window felt restrictive—we had to rush our evening meal to fit it in. Unfortunately, the hot tub also had mold spores on the headrest, which made it difficult to fully enjoy. Amenities were minimal—only half a bottle of washing-up liquid was provided, and it would have been nice to have some complimentary toiletries in the bathroom beyond just hand wash. The early check-out came with a long list of tasks, including stripping the beds, taking the rubbish to a bin a walk away, and ensuring all dishes were washed and put away. While we always leave a place tidy, being explicitly told to do so made the departure feel less welcoming. While there were definitely positives, the experience was let down by some key issues, and we feel the description should be more accurate to set the right expectations for future guests.

The property was in a very peaceful countryside location with great views! The lodge inside was clean and the bedrooms were a good size. The hot-tub was warm and clean and was private. The instructions to get to the location were clear and the road wasn't as bad as other comments implied.

The check in and out times are very tight, it would be nice to check in slightly earlier like 3pm, and check out at 11am instead of 10am especially when they require you to do so many things before checking out. You're expected to strip all the beds, take the bins out to their car park, and clean and dry all dishes used which seemed like a lot when check out was so early. It would be better if there were more than one parking space but after seeing the location it is understandable why. There was minimal kitchenware so if you're planning on cooking you need to bring your own stuff which did make cooking food a challenge! The oven also takes twice as long to cook anything. The instructions and rules all over the house was a bit OTT too!
