Historic Shearers Quarters

Quirky combination of historic and modern. I was switched to a safer unit after discovering the description of the 'unit' I had booked was misleading, for which I was very grateful - although then there was only a bath, which I can't use.

There was nothing in the description of the 'unit' I booked that revealed the bedroom and bathroom were located in different buildings. I never book such accommodation , only self-contained accommodation. I have reread the description repeatedly and it still seems to me misleading. When Alex kindly offered to put me in another unit, I was on the verge of paying for a night at a Taihape motel that would not put me at risk through falling on the stairs that would have had to be used to get from the bedroom to the bathroom and back in the dark. This is only the second time out of a large number of uses of booking.com where I have found the description unsatisfactory, and the first time I've had a problem in New Zealand.

A remarkable place. Decked out in old fashioned furniture and implements taking you back to the old days. Worth reading Marston - a wonderful history on the family who are the owners.

Beautiful nature setting, nice host and very nice cozy accomodation. Highly recommend

So quiet compared to city. Covers the basic creature comforts. Pleasant experience. Neat historical items collected around the place.

We had a warm welcome. The place had so many interesting historical features. The books were interesting, and great to read about the family history. Easy access from the main road.

Set in a beautiful, peaceful, rural location. No microwave or shower, but the oven with all the pots and pans, and the bath with ample hot water, did the job equally as well and more authentic. Had an interesting chat with Bunny, who has been there all his very interesting life and which has been captured in a very interesting book. Managed a few chapters but will return for 2 nights within 12 months to finish the rest. I also enjoyed chatting to James the farm manager, a very friendly and amiable person. Good, honest country folk. The time there was one of those memorable experiences that I will always treasure.
