Sarnia holiday flats

The flat was very homely and the hosts were brilliant I will definitely want to stay again

The kitchen was well equipped and looked like it had just had a lick of paint and had been smartened up.

When arrived we were told we were in the Penthouse - it was four flights of steepish carpeted stairs, at the top of the house. We would not have booked if we had realised this. We were not assisted with our luggage and we are both 76 years old. Not even an offer. I struggled. It was a very cold night, we were told when we reached the top that we had to put coins in the electric meter which was on the bottom of a wall - very awkward - he started us off with £3 as we didn't have English money at that point. Also once he had gone we realised there were no towels. The bedrooms were cold. The windows were rattly. One bedroom was a family room with bunk beds in it, the other room was small and it was awkward to get in one side due to the sloping ceiling. We were then shown the bathroom which meant going out of the main door, so you had to take the key with you to get back in. It was down 6 steps, it was freezing cold and very old fashioned. As we are old it wasn't ideal to have to get out of bed, out of the apartment and down 6 stairs to use the bathroom in the night/early hours. The final straw was when my husband went to have a shower and water went gushing all over the floor which he mopped up with towels, the sprinkler was broken, it was that bad. Everything was dated. The sofa in the lounge had a duvet thrown over it and there was only room for 2 people on it and there were 3 of us. We didn't use anything. 7. We decided to leave and to speak to the owner about the 4 floors up and down that I couldn't manage, the leaking shower, the whole thing but we couldn't get through to the manager. The owner, a woman was sitting in a small alcove so my husband spoke to her but she was adamant it was all ok. We left a message on the managers phone asking us to contact us - but he never did and still hasn't which is why I am now doing the review. We were so disappointed that we booked into a hotel for the rest of our stay. £300.
