The Golden Ball Cottages

The cottages are in a great location - close to Lancaster and adjacent to (but not owned by) the Golden Ball Hotel. The rooms are a little dark due to the small windows, but clean cosy and warm. The Golden Ball Hotel is superb with a huge glass fronted restaurant overlooking the river and cosy snug-type rooms. Lucy, the owner, is a star. She arranged bacon and egg baps delivered to the cottage door at 9am for breakfast...wonderful.

Only reservation was the need to light the room as a little dark but that was probably caused by overcast weather during stay.

There was nothing to like about the property!

Key not available when arrived. Rooms not cleaned from previous occupants. Confusion over management of property ownership. No replenishment of tea & coffee in room. Very disappointing

Location was good for our employee.

Although a legal requirement, the accommodation refused to issue a VAT receipt and kept referring us to Booking.com. Booking.com, who are not responsible for issuing receipts, kept referring us back to the accommodation. In the end, booking.com tried to get a receipt from the accommodation but they even refused to issue them one. This has meant that we have now blacklisted this establishment and they subsequently missed out on 12 weeks of accommodation. Also, due to booking.com not resolving the situation, all of our 120 employees have been instructed to avoid using them for making business bookings in future.

bed was comfortable and view was good

supplies were poor for a 3 day visit, most of one toilet roll 3 coffee sachets etc, fridge but no plates cutlery or microwave, fell between hotel room and self catering appartment

Single bed broke when daughter sat on it, hurt her back. Coat hook fell off wall when I hung my coat up hit me on head these items need a proper repair as they had obviously been broken before n just bodged back

Mattress on the double could do with a topper, could feel the springs when I moved

The location and cleanliness.

No staff /owner on site. The cottages are not owned by the same lovely people who run the pub/ restaurant of the same name. The bed mattresses are not fit for purpose. The large metal springs were digging into us . Horrendous nights sleep. When I tried contacting the owners and messaged them to complain “no answer or response” . The shower pressure was a trickle at best. They have replaced the good fridge from 2 years ago with a tiny portable fridge that fits cans of pop/beer or 1 plus a pint of milk. No WiFi (not the end of the world!) we stayed in no 5 same as 2 years ago! Shame because we enjoyed it last time which is why we returned again. Would look at staying in one of the pods if we returned again to same area as these are owned and run by the same people who run pup.

Location short drive to morecambe, Heysham Lancaster etc accommodation more than adequate for a couple lots of space and storage comfortable bed

Small cups prefer good old fashioned big mug for my morning coffee
