Casa de Vista Alta

We read that the service was great before coming and they still managed to surprise us in happy ways. We felt very well taken care of, they even got us bug spray when we had foolishly left ours at home. The meals were delicious and the staff was very accommodating. The setting naturally brings in such variety of birds we felt like we were on a perpetual bird tour just from our villa and eating meals on the patio.

The staff at Casa de Vista Alta were incredible. Esther welcomed us upon arrival and gave us an amazing birding tour at a local reserve on our second day. Fernando helped us with arrangements at a local chocolate making facility and gave us a great hiking recommendation for the nearby Rio Bravo Reserve. The cooking staff prepared a delicious breakfast for us each morning and a great selection of vegetarian dinner options (vegetable stew, pesto pasta). We were able to have cabs called for us to get into town as needed, which was very helpful. The view of the cloud forest from the dining area was awe-inspiring. In the evening, there is an incredible ambience created by a night chorus of birds, frogs, and insects in the surrounding forest.

The location is fabulous, right in the cloud forest with so many birds to see directly from the room or when having breakfast or dinner (especially the beautiful hummingbirds). We took a bird watching tour with Esther which was wonderful, she’s extremely knowledgeable and took some great photos that she shared with us. Taxi to town is cheap and easy but you can also have dinner at the lodge which I highly recommend. Breakfast is also very good. Bed is super comfortable and we loved our terrace with hot tub. We also walked up to the terebita ride across the gorge and walked to the waterfalls, was a very rainy day but still an enjoyable morning.

We loved everything, there was a power cut during our stay but we still had a lovely dinner by the fire with candles for lighting. It rained a lot but just come prepared and it doesn’t matter.

The pictures do not do this place justice it was absolutely beautiful. The scenery was straight out of a movie.

I loved the simplicity of the place it was everything i needed, very clean very well built felt very safe, but most importantly the staff they gave me better service than any five star resort i’ve ever been to.
