Belem is brilliant

Apartment clean , needs some work in the bathroom, rained in one of the skylights the first night , plugged hairdryer in and socket cover came off.

There was a terrible smell in the room during our stay, which came from the bathroom. We pointed this out to the contact person, who suggested that we open the window and taps. Of course, that didn't solve anything. The room is smaller than the pictures show. Considering the small room, the living room you have to share with others and the unbearable smell, it is extremely expensive!

Location was great

Keys were a constant struggle.

Ideal location at the heart of Belem, close to tram and train stops and just a short walk from the major tourist attractions - very important when you need to get to Jeronimos monastery or Pasteis de Belem early to beat the enormous queues. Next to a large number of cafes but not noisy as they closed early. Lots of space in the room, the shared lounge and well-equipped kitchen (though it could do with a bread knife!). And buying food is now much easier as a big new Lidl opened at the football ground in April.

The bathroom. It was clean but looked tired, old, grubby and in need of a total revamp. Unlike the rest of the flat, which was professionally decorated, it looked like a very bad DIY job. There was a strange plastic pipe running from a hole in the bath to the wall, the door was rotting at the bottom and many of the tiles were smeared in badly-finished cement. The plug in the sink didn't work and it had no hot water at first - someone had turned it off at the wall.
