ZAWe had such a wonderful stay at Cottage Pie in Clarens! The place is beautifully decorated with a cosy, homely feel that makes you relax the minute you walk in. The beds were incredibly comfortable, complete with electric blankets—such a treat on chilly Clarens nights. I really appreciated the heaters in each bedroom too, keeping everything warm and snug. The indoor fireplace was perfect for evenings in, and the outdoor hot tub was such a bonus—especially under the stars! It’s those thoughtful little touches like coffee, milk, and a well-stocked kitchenette that really made the stay feel special. The host was also incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, comfy getaway.
Absolutely nothing
USCompared to other places we had stayed recently, this place was spacious - a whole house! - with a great kitchen, a hot tub, barbecue, etc. We had room and facilities to cook, eat together, play games, even work. We were able to take a nice walk along the creek and up the hill. We were kept comfortably warm overnight by the coal stoves. The maids were great, stoking those stoves and making sure we were well stocked with coal. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we had another night or two.
The biggest drawback is that there were ants in the kitchen, and we lost some of our food before we realized this. They got cleaned up each day, but came right back, so we had to take care about where to keep our food items. Also, the light "switches" were difficult to find - some were pull strings from the ceiling! The master bedroom had no shower, only a bath. A nice bath, but we would have preferred a shower. One of the twin beds in the other room squeaked enough to disturb my sister's sleep.
