Silent River Cottage

We had an excellent time staying at Silent River Cottage. Amila was incredibly helpful with organising a safari and providing advice on sites to visit in Udawalawe. Furthermore, make sure you have breakfast and dinner here. Nadeeka made the best food we had in Sri Lanka and did not skimp out on the portions! The immediate area surrounding River Cottage is exceptional, we viewed a peaceful Buddhist temple, saw over 300 Indian Flying Foxes fleeing the nest at sunset and enjoyed a refreshing swim in Amila’s river.

The accomodation was amazing and so comfortable. All facilities worked amazingly and being by the river swimming with monkeys was so special. Amila and his family were so accomodating, they went above and beyond for us. The dinner and breakfasts were so delicious and we had a wonderful time playing cricket with the kids. They also organised our whole safari for us. We will genuinely remember our stay here forever because we were so touched by this lovely family. Can’t recommend enough. The Owner and his family were extremely friendly and recommended a Massage place, which was ok, but too expensive and a very good Safari to Udawalawe National Park . Special place close to the river, where we had a beer while watching birds , monkeys and other animals. Room was clean , bed comfortable. Prize worth the Money.

I had a really great time staying at the silent river cottage for two nights. The room was very clean and well equipped (AC, fridge, blow dryer) and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms are surrounded by (fruit) trees, hammocks and you can watch monkeys and peacocks strolling around. It is nice way to escape the busy city and enjoy the sounds of nature. Another Highlight is the access to the river where you can go swimming. Plus the traditional food cooked by the owner‘s wife was so delicious. One of the best ones I had in Sri Lanka! On top of all of it is the family. They’re so warm hearted and try their best to fulfill any wishes you have. They also helped me with the transport and organized a safari tour with Subhash, which I can also highly recommend. All in all it was a truly magical experience in the jungle that I recommend to anyone who’s looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway.

Beautiful place, nice big rooms. They served fantastic home made food. We had very comfortable stop there for one night,. It's very nice family owned place and they were helpful to organize safari and transport to us.

The place is relaxing and very homey feels like. The owner of the place is a couple and have done fantastic accommodation and services. The room was tidy, especially the bathroom. They serve delicious food for breakfast. Our whole 2 nights stay was well spent. Many thanks to Amila and family for treating us not just like guests but more of a family. 🥰
