Eremo della Maddalena the oasis of the 5Terre

Thusitha was an incredible host! Our favorite part was the scenic views and the kind service.

Although everything was great (service, rooms, view, pool) the only thing is the distance to the towns. The walk from Maddalena to Monterosso is very dangerous and will not recommend to anyone who is not a hiker. The roads are very narrow and curvy so going in the car is a little scary as well.

This property is stunning. I specifically chose to stay here because the pictures online were amazing. The property does not disappoint. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL. The property sits high up in Monterosso and overlooks the ocean. The views are incredible. I enjoyed hiking into town from the property everyday. In addition, the owner and staff went above and beyond to ensure i had everything i needed. They personally gave me a ride into town one evening so I could eat dinner at a restaurant. They also drive me to the train station early one morning so I could get back to Florence.

The only thing is the property sits quite high up overlooking then town. I was happy to hike down into town every morning and back up in the afternoon. However, I was there during the offseason (April). Therefore, cab rides seemed less available (at night and early mornings). Since i couldn't hike down the mountain with luggage or find a cab that early it was challenging a few times to get to town. However, the owner and staff personally gave me a couple rides.

After a few days of the huddle and bustle of Florence, the location and serenity of this accomodation was amazing. Stunning place. Helped we had a vehicle to drive down to the town.

The hotel had the most amazing view looking over the Mediterranean Sea, located in a calm and relaxing olive grove. It’s a beautifully restored building attached to a church and has kept all its character and charm. The breakfast is delicious and you don’t want to leave to start the day as you’re sitting outside on the terrace with the sun and sea. The room we had was spacious, clean and couldn’t ask for anything more. The hospitality was great and would love to go back again.

Nothing at all! But if I had to say something the walk to Monterosso took around 30 mins which was fun and worked off all the food we ate but I wouldn’t want to do it at night as there are no lights in the woods!
