It was a laid back place with some shared spaces like the toilets and a downstairs kitchen area. The establishment itself is a bookstore / cafe and the hosts are generally hanging out there. It was a good stay and we enjoyed interacting with our hosts. Definitely worth a stay. However, if you're coming for the onsens, note that the onsen pass or yukatas are not provided by the hosts, like a hotel would in Kinosaki.

Takashi was a great host who made me feel like family at Bookstore Ichi. He had plenty of recommendations, great stories from growing up in the area, and was really helpful whenever I needed anything. Bookstore Ichi is more than just a place to stay - Takashi cultivates a warm community and welcomes you into it. My room was clean, spacious, well kept, and the balcony view was nice for mornings. I liked sleeping with the windows open and found the town to be calm and restful.

The room was really comfy. The location is really good.

Below the bedroom is the entrance and bar where it can get very noisy pretty late. Until 12am it opened and you heard everything in the room.

Really big room, the best bed I had until now while traveling, really nice place to stay, Tak-san was supportive and made me feel really Welcome, he is really good in english so I had fun talking with him and the whole atmosphere of the book store ichi is really family like. People come around to talk and drink or eat something and even if it's only with Google translator they will happily talk with you.

As a heavy european im also pretty big so the stairs and toilette seemed pretty tight but it worked All out really well. I regret not learning more japanese to join more conversations.

I was able to have the balcony room all to myself during 2 nights' days. The drink was good after going to onsen and the staff was really friendly too. The ropeway is right past the bridge in front of the holiday home. The nearest onsen/bathhouse is less than 5 min walk, so it's not a problem.

The balcony's chair and table were a tiny bit dusty. Also, the stairs to the second floor were pretty narrow. I know it is a Japanese house, but since I have a big backpack, it kept slamming into the wall.
