River Retreat Sigiriya

A Unique Stay Surrounded by Nature Location & Atmosphere The property is fully immersed in nature. The garden wasn’t as polished as in the photos, but instead full of wild plants and greenery. The owner apologized for this, but we honestly loved it—it felt authentic and beautiful. Electricity & Comfort Power outages are common in the area, and the hotel doesn’t have a generator. During our stay, we experienced two outages, meaning no lights or fans. The owner provided a flashlight, but the lack of ventilation made it a bit uncomfortable at times. Check-in & Host Due to the outages, we had to delay check-in and ended up rushing it on our last day. I highly recommend doing it upon arrival, as the owner shares very useful local tips. She also organizes ethical elephant safaris, which is a great plus. Room & Cleanliness Clean room and bathroom, with even a small harmless frog inside—adding to the natural experience. Extra Touch We were welcomed with a delicious homemade lemonade.

Super gute Lage, Fliegennetze, viel Natur und sogar Affen und Vögel im Garten. Zudem eine sehr nette und freundliche Frau die einem immer weitergeholfen hat, Rücksicht genommen hat und uns sogar eine schöne Safari ermöglicht hat.

Man muss beachten das es abends kein warmes Wasser gibt weil das Wasser über solar läuft. Ansonsten keine Fensterscheiben sondern teils nur Gitter

Chambre super propre et on a bien vu que la propriétaire qui est adorable a passé du temps à faire le ménage, et c'était nickel ! La chambre est très spacieuse. La maison est dans un espace très arboré et agréable si vous aimez observer les animaux (oiseaux, singes,papillons...) un petit coin de paradis 😍. Nous avons fait le safari à l'école parc Hurulu avec la propriétaire qui est aussi guide passionné et respectueuse des animaux. Un vrai moment de plaisir où elle a partagé avec nous ses connaissances. Je vous recommande vraiment de le faire avec elle. Un grand merci pour tout ❤️

A true garden of Eden, wild & peaceful. The room was spacious & sparkling clean. Received lots of tips from the owner which made my stay very pleasant. The property is hidden from the noisy road.

Guest house owner was so lovely, they gave me great information to ensure I enjoyed my short time in Sigiriya. Super clean room and great location off of the main road. Great value!

We really liked our stay in River Retreat and the location was great! Everything was 2-3 minutes by foot from us. The room was as expected and we really enjoyed our stay because the accommodation is pet friendly so we got to see a lot of animals in the backyard and they were very tame and friendly. Because of that, this was the place we remember most and we stayed in around 5 different accommodations in SL. Madu, the owner, was very friendly and she took her time to inform us all about Sigiriya and the whole SL since it was our first stop. She was very accommodating even when we told her that it was going to be 3 of us instead of 2. Madu also took her time to show us around and to take us to the safari for which she arranged everything. Thank you, Madu!
