San Marcos Cultural & Guesthouse

The location was nice in the town center on a quiet street. The cleaning lady who checked us in seemed very nice, and the other lady was also quite friendly and gave us a couple of souvenirs. The price was good, but unfortunately, the airport service was not reliable and the customer service overall was severely lacking.

We paid $25 for transportation to the airport early in the morning since we had an early flight and never got picked up. We waited outside the hotel for 20 minutes in the rain with no word from the driver, and since the plane wasn't going to wait, we had to call an Uber. Eventually, we got a message from the driver saying he couldn't get out of the parking lot and had left his phone. He apologized and promised the hotel would return the money. It's been over a week and still no word on any refund. Overall, the experience was very disappointing. We aren't picky people, but it really sucks to be stranded when you're relying on someone to get to the airport, and then to not have any remedy for the situation. Also, the room was cold, there was a weird smell and you could hear talking from the next room.

Edna and her excellent staff were outstanding. The hotel is a beautiful, old colonial building that was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The location is very good as you are in close walking distance to the San Francisco and Santo Domingo Cathedrals, the Museo de la Ciudad, and other great sites in Old Town. The breakfast is delicious too (thanks Paulina!). Great value. Would definitely stay there again.

Nothing that I disliked.

Good location close to the old town. It is a nice old house located in a quiet neighborhood. Pretty quiet place, fair price and basic facilities. The kindness of the owners is remarkable.

Not much to say about this but it was hard for me to find it because it didn't have the proper name on the door.

Ameron was really friendly and was happy to give us some tips for our time in Quito! The house is really beautiful.

The room was very big. The owner of the place was very lovely and made us a delicious breakfast. She looked out for us and was always willing to help.

The sink / bathroom were a bit small.

Good location if you are planning to stay near the historic center (very close to Plaza Grande). The building is going through updates and being used as workshop on the first floor. Rooms for guests are on the second floor/yellow doors. The room that I stayed had all I need it in decent condition- old but working. There are dogs and cats residing in the hostal :) I believe I was the only guest during my stay but it appears there are renters. I didn't had the chance to try their breakfast-starts at 7am. I requested pick up service from the airport for $25 (in the description says is free but is not). Amador came to the airport and was very knowledgeable and shared info about the building and Quito.

In the room that I stayed, there was no window to the outside but in the bathroom there is one window above the toilet. Behind the bathroom window is the hallway. (so if you are in the hallway, you could hear the person using the bathroom even see the inside of the bathroom if you are tall enough) I shut the bathroom window during my stay for this reason. Also, the room is not soundproof as described. You can hear the doorbell or people talking very clearly.

Great location for the Centro Historico. Most of the time very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast.

A church service on Sunday morning in the central courtyard woke us early with loud music. Staff on Sunday was friendly but hard to find. Our booked airport transfer didn’t show up and we had a hard time getting into the hotel at midnight even though we we very clear of a late arrival which was further delayed by our airport transfer not showing up. Seems there was a death in the family so we forgive them for that and I expect our experience is atypical.

It is close to the historical city centre, good breakfast.

Not a really comfy bed. The electric heater in the shower didn't work. When I said it to the lady she told me there must be a very small stream and then it is warm. Don't know how you get a shower in a very small stream then. The location is according to her safe only till 8pm.

The breakfast is amazing, as is the location. The owner is very kind and it feels private.
