Old House

Our visit to Monsanto was a delightful experience that offered a unique glimpse into one of Portugal's most picturesque villages. The village's charm, characterized by its granite houses nestled among massive boulders, created a fairy-tale atmosphere that was both enchanting and memorable.

Our only regret was not staying longer

We loved Old House! Our host was an exceptional person who has boundless energy and compassion. She helped locate important medicine that was inadvertently dropped. We will have enduring wonderful memories of our time here.

This is a beautiful little house with plenty of room for a family or two couples. It’s unique and warm and in a great location for exploring Monsanto. Eloiza is a wonderful and helpful hostess with a great sense of humor. Fabulous breakfast.

Eloiza was fantastic... she collected our luggage from the car park outside the old city, in her tiny electric Citroen. She was very helpful booking dinner for us The house is a fantastic multilevel warren of interesting places, clean and well thought out, with lots of interesting pictures and articles Breakfast was excellent

It didn't bother us, but there are a lot of steps up and down the various levels, so maybe not the best for those people who don't cope with stairs. But then, Monsanto is a sloping climbing, hilly village, so anyone who can't deal with stairs will struggle anywhere in the village

The hosts were both excellent and welcoming. The house is very old but refitted, with comfy beds and hot showers. We really liked the decor and quirky layout. Breakfast being laid out for us in the morning was a nice touch! You get the feeling that the hosts really want you to enjoy your stay in Monsanto!

Everything! From Eloisa meeting us with her electric car to transport our luggage to the house (which she hoisted our 50# suitcase with no problem!!) to her sweet, kind and caring demeanor. She even brought us warm soup for dinner the night we arrived! The character of the ‘Old House’ can’t really even be described and must be experienced. But if I was to use just one word it would be - magical!! Our day to go to the castle was misty and rainy - which was awesome really and added to the mystical atmosphere of this unique town. Sadly, we had a very short stay, but hope to return one day…

Not a thing! (Well it was medieval-cobblestone-hilly but we knew that when we signed up!😂)

What a delightful stay! Eloísa and Fernando have created a warm and inviting place, with many thoughtful touches throughout. Eloísa was so friendly and helpful, despite our language barrier. Breakfast was wonderful, the town is so charming, and we only with we could have stayed longer!
