The Berwick Inn

Handy location for meeting friends travelling to the South Downs by train and car. Friendly staff.

While the pub advertises meals until 21.00 on Sundays - we were unable to order any food other than desserts at 19.30 as we were told the kitchen was closing. We felt we could have been advised by the management on arrival if there was a problem so that we could still have made alternative dinner plans. As it was, we had only drinks and desserts after a long day's walk on the Downs. The bar also closed early, and we had to retire to our rooms by 21.30! Before leaving the bar, we were invited to fill out a form for cooked breakfast requests. Moments later, we were told that because the pub was closed the following day for planned repairs, there would only be a continental breakfast available. I feel strongly that the Inn should not be offering accommodation on nights when they are not able to provide a full breakfast or dinner service.

Excellent breakfast. Lovely friendly staff. Clean room. Good food. Lovely outside area for meals.

Room quite small, room wasn't made up but maybe it is on longer stays ( we were there 2 nights) so we had to wash up the cups to reuse!!

Serving breakfast at 9.30 earliest is not on. We were offered, after asking, some boxes of cereals and some milk. Fortunately we were asked to join friends elsewhere for breakfast at 8a.m. Water in shower running hot and cold. Access to room rather difficult with door in way. Shabby staircase and damp walls on way up to room. Right beside railway line so not a quiet room.

The venue was lovely, and the room was nice and clean with such a comfortable bed. The staff are friendly and the food was really nice. And a beautiful view from the garden area.

Nice room and bathroom. Good pub meal. Quiet.We liked the fresh milk for tea in the rooms.

Paid for breakfast to find it would not be served until after 9.30. We had to catch a ferry at 11.00 and be there by 9.30 so we were unable to stay for breakfast even though we had paid in advance for it. We did manage to arrange with the chef to provide us with a takeaway croissant the night before.

A warm welcome even though we arrived quite late. Room was lovely, very clean and comfortable. Fresh milk available for our room was unique and very appreciated. Service in the bar was friendly and genuine. Definitely a place for a future stay when we are next in the area.

Few trains rumbling past but didn't really bother us.

Location next to railway station was very convenient for a day at Eastbourne tennis. We left the car in the car park Dinner was fine

Breakfast wasn’t available til 9.30 The room was adequate but small. Unfortunately It was a very hot night so it was rather airless.
