The Berwick Inn

Location is good we thought it was in Polegate but Berwick Inn is in Berwick by the rail crossing. So pretty quiet and rural. Nature park reservoir just up the road. You do hear trains but they didn't seem to run during the night so slept soundly. Room and shower were of a high standard.

Breakfast not served until 9:30 Very limited choice for breakfast. In the end breakfast was too late anyway but we were told the night before that there would be no hot drinks (as they are available in the room!) or cereals. No TV in room. Railway line next door running all through the night.

Staff were very good so was the food. Lots of parking.

Breakfast was very late - from 9:30am to 11am. Room was very small & quality of furniture was poor - bedside tables were very flimsy and you had to hold them still to open drawers & make sure very lightweight lamps did not fall over. Stairs up to room were very small & scruffy - carpet hanging off. Nowhere to hang coats. Right next to a very busy railway line.

Room was lovely and comfortable, modern and clean. We arrived after a day’s paddleboarding and it was a much needed comfort! Communication was been excellent prior to our stay too. Biggest highlight though was how friendly and helpful all the staff were, really did everything they could to make our stay a good one and the lamb Sunday roast and chocolate brownie/apple pie was absolutely delicious. Very much recommend, thank you! There was a really friendly atmosphere in the pub. It was a bit chilly so we didn’t try out the beer garden but it looked fab. Unfortunately we left early in the morning so skipped breakfast but wished we had been able to as the menu looked fantastic.

The pressure and hot water in our shower was a little bit up and down so maybe could merit a look at.

A lovely old inn, spotlessly clean and filled with character, amazingly helpful staff, who couldn’t do enough for us, thank you Hazel and team you were all brilliant 5*****

I Should have checked the location as it was right on the railway, but services not running midnight to 5am so did get some respite, also a very noisy water pump that serviced all rooms was quite disturbing

It was a shame there was no TV in the room.

Not a lot only the friendly staff. Whilst we appreciate it was a bank holiday we felt like we were thrown under the bus. Check in is at 4pm the food service had finished and was closing for the night including the pub. The room was clean and comfortable but in no way should it be marketed as a superior double room

The fact we were left to our own devices with a front door key so we could come and go as we pleased. No milk for a drink in the room. No Tv or radio we should have paid more attention to details of the room before booking. If you’ve got a meeting booked before 9-30am then there’s no chance of breakfast even though it was included in the room rate as breakfast is served between 9-30am and 11am. Berwick to Eastbourne for a meeting is impossible in 5 minutes especially with no trains running. On the train front there is a railway that runs directly behind the room which when the trains thunder through at all hours actually shakes the bed this is not listed in the information on Booking.com and should be to make other guests aware.

Beautiful modern room .Great shower and super comfortable bed and pillows. Very attentive staff .The bar is smazing and even had live music which finished early so very quiet nights sleep . On the train line so they start around 7pm but not too noisy .Just a great place to stay.
