Breakfast was so weak, I have an egg alergy and they just brought bread and 2 kinds of fruit. Sleeping mat was really uncomfortable, no privacy as there were no shutters or heavy curtains. The bathroom sink wasn’t clean at all. There were lots of dust and spider mites all over.

Pongkham residence is situated in a quiet area of Luang Prabang yet the old quarter is within walking distance or a short ride on a free bicycle provided by the guesthouse. The rooms are large and clean and have good storage space. There are plenty of sockets for charging batteries. The Aircon works well and is quiet. The inclusive breakfast was very good and as well as an omelette seasonal fruits were also provided. However, it is One and Channly, the proprietors, who are the biggest asset for a fantastic stay at Pongkham. One spent many years as a tourist guide covering a large part of Laos and his knowledge is unrivaled. Both he and Channly are always at hand to give suggestions and advise for a great stay in Luang Prabang but also at other areas that you are, or should be, visiting in Laos. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pongkham.

There is nothing not to like.

We had a fabulous time at Pongkham residence. The hosts are amazing, they will look after you and make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The property was spotlessly clean and the location was brilliant - just outside the madness of the city centre with plenty of facilities around. The breakfast was delicious and they can adapt to your requirements. The hosts offer great advice for what to do during your stay, and they even provide free bikes for you to use. We loved out stay here and we thoroughly recommend it!

That we had to leave after 5 days :(

Good place to stay in Luang Prabang if you don’t want to be in the center, but not too far either. 30min walking distance from the center, they also provide bicycles if you don’t want to walk which is pretty handy! Rooms and facilities are clean and comfy. Friendly owners cooking breakfast for you. They also kept our luggage while we went to Nong Khiaw for few days which was really helpful for us.

Nice warm welcome from the owner who gave us lots of things to do and tips to avoid tourist traps. We couldn’t check in immediately so we’re suggested a lovely spot nearby for some local but very cheap food which was great (we were able to leave our bags at the hotel). Location was out of town which we didn’t mind and were also expecting. The owner also offered free use of some really nice bikes so this was helpful at times. Breakfast was included - omelette, bread, jam, fruit and coffee (instant) or tea. We had access to free water refills.

The Wi-Fi wasn’t the best despite having the option to connect to multiple routers. Despite paying slightly more than we are used to, it was very average. Breakfast was ok but no juice or good coffee (this is expected when you are paying budget prices) and at times was quite slow (bear this in mind if you have any tours booked for the morning). It was a nice place but slightly over priced.

Next door neighbours like to stay up, making noise sitting out in there front yard, drinking etc till 2 am most nights.

- Excellent breakfast made every morning by the kind couple who owns the guesthouse. We loved their warm baguettes, delicious omelettes, pineapple jam and fruit salads - so filling and a great start to the day. Breakfast is served at a very large table where you can chat to other guests if you like - we met some lovely people. - The guesthouse feels like home thanks to the welcoming owners and the cleanliness as well as the general cosy vibe of the place. We loved the well-maintained plants around the property and our room had the door at the back which made it very quiet. - The family always asked us about our day which made us feel looked after, provided recommendations for what to see (and when - we visited the Kuang Si waterfall early in the morning on the advice of the guesthouse owner and it was the best time to visit), booked us tuk-tuks that always arrived on time and even went to the bus station to get our onward bus tickets (thank you again, we’ve made it safely to Nong Khiaw) - Extra large bed with two duvets, fresh smelling white, good quality sheets and towels, very hot water with excellent pressure, lovely clean bathroom, frequent change of towels, both AC and a fan in the room - Located around a 20min walk from the centre of town on a quiet residential street which we liked as it provided a glimpse into local life; also a short walk from the UXO education centre and the Ock Pop Tok Living Craft Centre which was one of the highlights of our trip
