Wilson Cottage Dartmoor

Wilson Cottage was quiet, private and looked out onto open country. It was well enough equipped, the rooms generous and comfortable for a short stay. It was light, warm and we appreciated the host greeting us and showing us around.

It was in need of some TLC as the bathroom had rusty grab-rails and mould around the shower cubicle. The electric towel rail didn't work and the living room french door blind was broken. There were no kitchen essentials other than salt and pepper. No tea, coffee, sugar, milk, oil etc. Usually there are oddments left by previous visitors or a welcome pack of essentials so you don't have to rush straight out on a Sunday evening to find essentials for the kitchen.

The location, the garden for the dogs, and the countryside feel. Nice having biscuits and dog treats on arrival.

The Owner did offer loan of cat carrier which was kind. Nice location- Shame we didn't get to enjoy it.

We booked here because it says on the booking. com site pets welcome free. Never asked what pets just said about dogs but it never said you can't bring other pets. So I assumed you could. No one at any time said what pets do you have?. I would of told them if it had. We had 2 cats a guinea pig caged securely 3 rats caged securely . It is on me that I missed the long list of rules sent. I thought I had clicked on it and filled the registration form. Name , number etc. but missed the other attachment with the rules. I accept I should of double checked our pets would be welcome.But we didn't deserve to be made to feel bad and hit out of nowhere with a choice to pay a extra massive £250..Deposit to be allowed to stay. Supposedly incase damage but they wouldn't clarify exactly what they could as damage so forced to leave and lose our entire holiday cost after being there only about 2 hours. Plus manager barged in and kept coming back not letting us relax and. making us feel unwelcome, uncomfortable and ill at ease. Hard lesson learned. Always check small print.

The location

It needed a clean some cobwebs in the bathroom on the sealing and could do with a new cooker just a bit more modern
