"Great location for shops and restaurants"

8.0

The location is fantastic the cottage is in a quiet location so you don't get disturbed from the many tourists the town brings. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxed stay even a tall fan in the main bedroom which for our stay was very handy to have.

The settees are low down and can be an effort to comfortably get up should anyone have a mobility issue. The exterior of the property for our stay did not reflect the advert photo. There was weeds growing directly in and around the front of the cottage and the bench is looking tiered and unloved the whole area simply needs a couple of days work to bring the outside back to the standard of the advertised photo.

"Lovely cottage in a great location"

10.0

What a beautiful cottage! We visited Whitby for 2 nights with my dad and this cottage couldn't have been in a better location and was everything we needed. Just a few minutes walk from the harbor, cafes and shops. We live in the US otherwise we would definitely be back for another stay!

Lovely cosy cottage located perfectly for the town, beach, bars and cafes that are within walking distance. The cottage itself comfortably sleeps up to six people and its in a lovely quiet area. The host was great from start to finish very informative and helpful. Would definitely visit again 😊

Great location, owner was really helpful during stay. It's as expected from the pictures. My wife loved having a fan in the bedroom so there's that. Beds very comfy. Parking in a good location!

Would benefit from some extra folding chairs for those planning to eat at the house.

"A taste of real Whitby."

10.0

This is a traditional Whitby (fisherman's?) Cottage in a traditional Whitby yard or place or ghaut, probably over 200 years old. One can not get much more of a feel of historic Whitby than a place like this. That alone is a massive "plus" in my opinion. It's also located halfway up Flowergate, in the very heart of the town, wonderful! The cottage itself is cosy and generally clean (we found a couple of "dust bunnies", one under the chair in the master bedroom and one under the radiator in the lounge, which could easily have been missed by the cleaning team) and benefits from central heating. The kitchen is equipped with all you need, and the cottage has a washing machine and dishwasher tucked away in a tiny utility room at the back of the kitchen The lounge has 2 sofas (one a bed settee) a large screen tv and a dvd player. The stairs are narrow and steep, but there's not really much the owner can do about that, is there? The floors upstairs are very attractive bare varnished floorboards (one in the master bedroom is split badly and looks quite dangerous, perhaps it needs replacing?). The beds are comfortable and the bed linen was clean and crisp! There is also a beautiful (original?) fireplace in the master bedroom :) :)!. Both bedrooms have flat screen tvs fitted. The bathroom is not visually appealing, especially the shower, but it is functional. I would love to know a bit about the history of this place. (I wonder if any visitors have ever mentioned clothing not being in the place where it was left, or windows that were closed being open?)

The lounge window would benefit from some form of vertical or venetian blind to give a bit of privacy from people walking by outside. As mentioned in another review, perhaps the sofas are reaching the tail end of their usefulness... And perhaps a couple of small occasional tables? There is a very slight dog smell downstairs, but this is to be expected in a dog friendly cottage and to be honest it is very faint and disappears completely when the windows are opened. Not really complaints, just observations. And maybe clear departure instructions (I.e. place used towels in the bath, strip the beds and leave bedding on bed/floor/laundry basket .. whatever...) Haydock Place itself is becoming infested with weeds, but again that isn't the fault of the owner. No real complaints though.

Excellent location for getting around Whitby. Very quiet.

Not much, stairs are steep but not much the owners can do about that. Had a cat smell upon entering but again they allow pets.

"Very disappointing."

1.0

9 out of 10 for location. 5 minute walk to train, bus station and harbour. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues, there are a couple of rather steep hills to climb.

This property fell well below the standards of a holiday rental. It is dirty, scruffy and has a smell of damp. I spent the first hour after our arrival cleaning the bathroom, washing crockery and cutlery. The tea towel is disgusting, I couldn't use it. Black bath towels and dark grey sheets is always a bad sign. We left earlier than our planned stay, we couldn't wait to get out of the cottage. I would not recommend this property.

"Charming and convenient"

8.0

The cottage is charming, in a great location and more spacious than anticipated. Sleeps up to six. Great for friends or a family group. It's in a close via an alley so nice and quiet and a step back in time. Felt like we were in old Whitby with all the artwork and photographs. Ideal location as you step out on to Flowergate. Had everything we needed for a comfortable two night stay. Tea, coffee etc available plus biccies provided. Kitchen nice and clean. Beds comfy.

It took us a bit to figure out the appliances in the kitchen and the water/heating. So a bit more guidance would help there. And I suspect as this is a busy cottage, that it's a bit overdue for an all corners spring clean. But none of this detracted from a lovely stay.
