Coastal cottage ‘The Old Bank’

Great location in fabulous village. Responsible host who quickly responded to questions and delivered coffee cafetière. Cream tea in fridge a lovely treat! Nice little touches.

Missing a few things like a tea towel (perhaps I should have asked) and scrubber for washing up. Couldn’t get shower hot on first day but it was fixed for second (or we weren’t turning it properly).

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, we discovered there was no Wi-Fi and no mobile signal, which left us unable to search for alternative accommodation - essentially leaving us stranded. The hosts provided no instructions / advice for our stay. The condition of the property was far below the expected standard. There was a strong, unpleasant smell of damp throughout, and visible mould in multiple areas. No ventilation and the bedding smelled like damp and felt wet! Several items were broken or poorly repaired with cellotape, and there was no access to hot water during our stay. Again, I can see from other reviews that this is a common issue and the host still gave us no instructions on how to make the hot water function properly. The curtains had a strong musty smell too. We couldn’t wait to check out the next morning after not sleeping all night - the smell, the lack of cleanliness and the noises coming from the flat upstairs made it extremely difficult to rest. We’re surprised by some of the positive reviews, surely they can’t be referring to this property. We have informed booking as we don’t feel this property meets the minimum standards for the site. As a host, it’s your responsibility to ensure your property is comfortable and adequate for your guests, especially when charging over £100 a night.

Strange layouts - minuscule basin in the bathroom (though there is plenty of room for a full sized basin), and bed strangely oriented. All felt rather tired.

The cottage was clean and comfortable with a lovely homely feel. Well equipped and in a perfect location for hiking around the area. The host was really friendly and great with my early arrival. She'd left a cream tea as a welcome. too.

There was nothing that I didn't like about The Old Bank.
