"Beautiful, stylish period property in a charming part of the world,"

10.0

It was like walking into a home that was perfect. There is fabulous decor, interesting decorative items throughout the house, ambient lighting, comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms and a fabulously well appointed kitchen with many thoughtful extras.

There isn’t anything we did not like about this property.

"We absolutely loved this house!"

10.0

This was a fantastic place to stay. If you want something quirky, original and interesting (while still extremely comfortable and tasteful) rather than the usual bland, beigery then this is for you. Even nicer than the photos. Lots of generous and thoughtful touches. Very warm and cosy. All the rooms were great. The host communicates very well and is extremely welcoming. Lostwithiel has kept its character and has some v good restaurants.

Nothing.

Such a charming but incredibly spacious place to stay with a wonderful host. The property is equipped with everything you could possibly need and cleaned to a high standard. The garden is the cherry on top and feels like a hidden oasis in the middle of Lostwithiel.

"Beautiful house and great location"

9.0

The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped and in a great location for exploring the local area with plenty to do on foot or a short car ride away. It was perfect for a long weekend with family. The small garden is delightful and every thing in the house is very well organised with clear instructions. There were plenty of clean linens and towels and fresh supply of bathroom toiletries, much appreciated.

We did struggle with the stair gates which did not seem to fit properly so we had to remove them and just watch the young children on the stairs. There was a crib but no high chair. The house was not really ideal for young children but we managed and everything else was so good it did not really matter. It would have been useful to have some small bowls or plates for deserts, fruit etc

"Would highly recommend the Shire House to friends and family."

10.0

Excellent facilities, well equipped and well furnished house oozing with character and yet with modern decor and everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Personally the mattress was a bit too firm for my liking but I realise this will differ from person to person.

"Characterful 18th century home in charming location next to river"

7.0

Good swift communication with the host. Easy to find, park and get in. Less than 30min drive to lots of places for the family to enjoy including the Eden Project and rockpools at Porthpean beach. Very near the rail station. Spacious rooms and well equipped. Plentiful fresh laundered sheets & towels.

The few not so good points: the damp/visible mould on several walls on lower and middle floors (visited in December so perhaps not an issue in warmer months) and black mould on window frames. Smell of smoke (we thought tobacco rather than wood) in certain rooms but better after airing and dog hair on the bedcover in lower room.
